Thanks guys. This marathon will be my third ever. Prior to not even two years ago, I was an occasional recreational runner but I'd never run more than 6 miles at a time. Then I started running consistently and did NYC in 3:35. Fell off the running wagon after that (2nd kid was born, brutal winter, laziness) until I could barely run 3 miles by my 37th birthday in May 2011.
So I joined a running club, forced myself out on the roads again, ran Philly in 3:14 in Nov. (my PR) and am now poised for a 3:05 in NJ. Will not try for faster, as I really want Boston and that's BQ+5. I also saw a doctor and got physical therapy which helped greatly. Oh, and I'm down 25 pounds from my couch potato peak.
Ultimately, I'm shooting for sub-3. Maybe at Boston '13! It's amazing how quickly one can improve with good training and a little discipline. But boards like this (as well as guys in my club) show that however much I've improved I've still got a long ways to go. It's humbling but awe inspiring.
All right, time to sneak out and get in a loop of Central Park! Good luck to all! Sorry for rambling.
