Cop who tasered woman till she braindead is cleared...smh at Florida.

Wow. That video was absolutely brutal to watch. I hate it when girls cry to get attention/sympathy.

The girl should not have committed crimes. The girl should not have run from the police. The cop should not have had to use a taser to catch her. When he did tase her, he probably should have asked her if she was okay and got medical help because he even said something like "you hit your head on the concrete pretty good." Yeah, if you watch closely, she hit her head VERY hard on the concrete. I'm surprised she wasn't knocked unconscious immediately. The cops also pretty much ignored her when she said she couldn't get up.

A lot of things happened that shouldn't have. ...I think you guys calling the cop a scumbag who committed 1st degree murder are out of line. I'm not saying he should have gotten off scott-free or anything, but it wasn't 100% his fault, nor was it his intention to seriously hurt her. This isn't another Rodney King story. A girl committed a crime, ran from the cops, and then hit her head as she was subdued. Perhaps excessive force was used and the cop certainly was careless in making sure she wasn't seriously injured, but that doesn't make him a scumbag evil cop on a power trip. If the info given about her is true (arrested multiple times, on cocaine and other drugs, warrant out for her arrest, etc), I really don't feel a lot of pity for her. Really just a bad situation for everyone.

To reiterate (as it looks like you need it) you are more bothered about the criminal than the actual victim.

That's the worst part about this: this is completely normal behavior for cops. It has become acceptable to use the tazer for just about anything. 110 pound woman being kind of annoying, but poses no threat? Who cares, zap her. Never mind that people die ALL THE TIME from being tazed. Between 180 to 277 people died in the US from 2001-2007 after being tazed, and the majority of them were unarmed.

hmmm ... both sides were wrong, but here's why I (generally) hate cops:

Cop calls me, left a msg. I call cop back, he is off duty, so I leave a msg. Cop sends his buddy cops to my house AT MIDNIGHT, claiming I did not call him back. I told them the cop lied, and I DID in fact, call him back. They ignore my claim that he lied, and proceed to ask me a bunch of personal questions. They won't tell me why I am being questioned, won't give me any info, and threaten to arrest me when I tell them I am uncomfortable with all the personal questions they are asking me. They continue to harass me for a while and then leave, telling me to call the lying cop. I make appt, see lying cop. He tells me he has video of me committing a crime against my husband's psycho ex-wife. I ask to see the video. He says he doesn't have to show it to me. I tell him that perhaps he should have checked HER record -- my accuser has been on and off psych meds for years, has a history of violent and unstable behavior, has spent time in jail for domestic violence, then beat up her daughter and called the cops on HER to avoid another arrest. He tells me that I have 3 days to confess, and then he's going to come arrest me. After 3 days of envisioning the police coming to my workplace and arresting me in front of my co-workers, I never hear from lying cop (or his buddies) again. Lesson learned: cops can and will lie to you anytime they want, they can harass and intimidate you for no reason, and you have NO RIGHTS when they are questioning you. They can arrest you FOR ANY REASON (that they make up) or for NO REASON.

Aside from 2 traffic tickets in 35 years of driving, this has been my only experience with police.

A quick look at the wiki page about tazers reveals that the 277 number comes from a single director of a regional amnesty international office. It doesn't come from a study or anything, just from one guy collecting data. He "estimates" that 80% were unarmed. He may be right, but he may also be full of shit. However, I would still be willing to bet that accidental deaths from tazers are less common than accidental shooting deaths would be without tazers. People don't die ALL THE TIME from being tazed, that's ridiculous. Wiki says that coroners have attributed tazer injuries as the primary or secondary cause of death a total of 23 times, not including deaths from injuries from struggles. This tells me that they are pretty safe. I'm more inclined to trust medical professionals whose job it is to determine cause of death than one guy from an amnesty international regional office.

My point is, they are very safe. They are probably safer than cops running after people and taking them out with night sticks or tackling them or whatever. They are absolutely safer than just having guns and no less-than-lethal devices. If you resist arrest the police have every right to taze you to contain the situation. The cop sounds like a moron to me, but he didn't purposefully kill the girl and did not act out of line in tazing her.

Rule #1-don't resist arrest.

Instead of that he shot her in the back with a deadly weapon with the intention of doing her bodily harm, in fact causing her to fall on the ground and land on her head. Then he continued to taser her for another 5 seconds as she lay motionless on the ground. Heck just open the prison doors and let everyone run free, because they are no worse than that fat pig axxhole who shot her in the back and now goes around bragging about what he did to her.

The stories of her being on drugs are bogus and were made up by the cops. She was not guilty of any hit and run and was not charged with anything.

They operate within the legal system, you feel something is going on that shouldn't be, lawyer up. Or if you are poor, file as a pauper, for free. Have you filed suit against the ex-wife? I imagine you just complained about your experience to us and someone else will share your fair because you didn't/were afraid to act.

It was the cop who shot her in the back with a deadly weapon who caused her to hit her head on the concrete.

She didn't just bend down under her own free will and bang her head from behind.

The cop was the cause of the entire damage that was done to her. He's an idiot, and anyone who stands up for him is a fool.

The criminal cop is the one who attacked and put Danielle in a coma, from which she will probably never awake.

I'm very concerned with Danielle's condition, and it's sad that the numbskull who did the damage to her is out on the streets looking for more victims.

I watched the video. She was conscious and lucid for quite some time after being tazed and hitting her head... leading to the conclusion that the head injury alone did not induce a coma. She was arrested for two hit and runs and driving without a license. If you want to say she wasn't "charged" ok but that is because there's not much sense in charging someone who will never be conscious. She absolutely did have drugs and alcohol in her system. I can guarantee her coma was not the most tragic coma in America that day. Amazing how people only seem to be bothered by people trying to get away with anarchy and paying for it whereas people minding their own business who are taking out by the aforementioned anarchists are irrelevant. In the end, i'd choose the cop over this girl as a neighbor any day of the week. One protects my children, the other runs them over.

the article says that 500 people have died in the U.S. since 2001 from being tasered! That was not at all the point of adopting the technology. They need to try something different. This could be any one of us, given particular circumstances.

No it couldn't have been. Look into the tasering of the guy by BC goons in the Vancouver airport. That's a tragedy. That's abuse. Not all taser deaths are equal. Drunk, drugged and fugitive does not apply to "any one of us." In fact, apart from you, it probably doesn't apply to anyone on this forum. If it does, maybe this should be your wakeup call.

Thats where you are wrong. Some guys tackles you you still ave control of your bodily functions and can avoid letting your head hit the ground. You get shocked with a tazer, you've got no control of your bodily functions and your head is gonna smack concrete. Not hard to figure dropping like a stone on concrete is going to kill people.

The cop was in the wrong. Its deadily force. Hopefully the federal govt looks into this or a civil rights lawsuit is started.

Well, you'll notice that I put 277 as the upper limit. Regardless, well over a hundred deaths linked to tasers is pretty significant in a 5 year period. That's a death every few days, which I would call all the time.

Of course the people they're using a taser on are unarmed. Do you really think cops are going to come within a couple of feet of a guy with a gun/knife? No f***ing way. They're tasing unarmed people and shooting the armed ones.

Finally, resisting arrest does not warrant death! When did we decide that it's OK for the police to kill people all the time? How does the rest of the civilized world manage to get along without killing their citizens?

This is sensible but slightly inaccurate. The girl was brought in on a warrant from two earlier hit and run warrants. i don't believe she was dui at the time of her arrest. She was drunk and doped to the gills but was served at home - not picked up while driving. Point remains the same though. Brutality needs to be stopped but it needs to be addressed in cases of actual brutality, not in one in a million circumstances in which the criminal did more to contribute to her demise than anyone else.
