It's funny because they don't realize they're gay. After pledging they will spend the next four years fighting back their urges by drinking in excess and sleeping with unattractive slutty girls.

Easy, wanting to belong to something bigger than themselves, and not wanting to have the reputation for there last 4 or 5 years of university as being a quitter.Mix that in with being a teen transitioning into an adult, and you have an entire complex at hand.Additionally, some people are looking for acceptance, or may have come from abusive homes.I'm sure there are some who join because they are genuinely sadomasochists.

Clearly you've never heard of the LaDucca. Also there's not much choice when all the girls are unattractive.

Being in a frat does not confer the benefits you mentioned. Perhaps being at a school like Dartmouth does, but it certainly isn't necessary to join a frat to do so.

While the student is incredibly ridiculous for subjecting himself to that sort of treatment the frat is still entirely to blame for this. That's some fvcked up behavior.

I knew a few guys who were in frats at UF.

Two were in one of the nerdy frats and the other two brought a dead frat back to life because they wanted to live at Animal House. It was DU I think. They nick named it DU-tang. I also think it was the gay frat for a bit and had a pink firetruck in the front yard. That lasted about 1 year until he and the other guy were kicked out because they were basically mocking the entire institution. Good parties, but I never got any action at them.

Of the two nerdy frat guys, one of them had a girlfriend in a sorority and she was told to break up with him because of the frat he was in. She did and he's now an engineer with BMW.

All in all they are good guys who are leading upstanding, productive lives. I'm only in contact with one of the DU-tangers and I will always count him as one of my brothers.

Was this event the motivation for the current shenanigans at Dartmouth. Are the frat boys trying to emulate the incredible feat of Dr Kempainen?. If so, they are doing him an embarrassing disservice!!

In the 1960s the Los Angeles Police Department started S.W.A.T. teams utilizing helos, armored vehicles, techonology, and older career police officers. S.W.A.T was immediately copied by the Army, Air Force, and Navy and renamed Special Forces. It's smarter to think low-risk and high-tech when asking Americans to perform as policemen and soldiers, and it saves taxpayers money.
