I know it's almost time for the next thread but I'll post my training ending the week of 11/1. I'm doing Hal Higdon's Advanced 2 program and this was the highest week in terms of mileage but even then it was only about 52. I'm running Philly on 11/22 with a goal of 3:11 (Boston qual.) and have followed the program exactly but am a little nervous that the mileage isn't enough. If anyone has experience with the Higdon program, I would love to hear about it.
Monday: Easy 5 (don't time my easy runs but probably somewhere in the 8:15 range)
Tuesday: 8 x 800 (Higdon suggests running the 800's in your marathon goal time which means 3:11 for me but I typically start at 3:10 and by the second or third one am down to 3:00 and finish with the last two being 2:40-low or 2:30-high).
Wednesday: Easy 5 (same as Monday, probably slightly faster)
Thursday: 40 minute tempo which included 10 minute warm up and 5 minute cool down. 25 minute tempo part was at 6:27 which is the fastest I've done in the program.
Friday: Rest (but I played flag football...)
Saturday: 10 miles at marathon pace (which is 7:17 for me). I've been running my pace runs faster than pace (as low as 6:59) because pace on these short runs feels way too easy. This time I consciously tried to run right on pace and after picking up the last mile or two, I ran about 7:12. This did not feel easy at all but I think that's because mentally I thought it would be a breeze and so I was too relaxed.
Sunday: Long run of 20. Third 20 miler in 5 weeks. Higdon says to run the long runs anywhere from 45-90 seconds slower than race pace. This was the last real long run so he said to try and run 45 seconds off of pace which would be 8:02 for me. I was right on that pace and then really picked it up the last 5 miles (7:07's) and finished the run overall at 7:47, just over a minute faster than my last 20 miler.
Overall I feel great but mentally and physically. I know my goals are more modest than most of the other people on this thread but there is just a sliver of doubt in the back of mind as to whether the volume in the program is high enough. I know there's nothing I can do about it now that I'm in my taper and maybe that's why I'm kind of second guessing.
