Bird hammered more than most and even pushed Porter which may have caused Bird’s injuries... If you would have witnessed his workouts... you would have nothing but respect for the guy.
I cannot remember other guys being injured as many times as he was in the late 80s at Adams..
His situation and my “Pigeon” issues were a major influence in my decision to focus more on school\career and stop running for Adams. A decision that I regret in some ways… but it still has been a great ride since then.
It's unfair to blame the coach here. What could the coach do if the athlete gets ITB, foot, and hamstring injuries from kicking a soccer ball with his doggie or becomes anemic as a result of nursing a baby?

What happens to "demonstrate fitness" like many other countries. Hell, if Jenkins is moved up at least we know he'll tough it out until he has to be pulled from the course. In fact, If this does occur, i can see him top 15 at least, maybe top ten.
"Demonstrating fitness" is also a Pandora's box. The criteria are usually in countries that select rather than use a trial race. It involves subjectivity as well. And how soon before the OG do you have to demonstrate fitness or risk being replaced? What if you get injured inside that window?
In his lectures, Simmons specifically brings up routine (quarterly) blood testing for all athletes (high school, college and pro) to check for low iron levels.

-i'm not really aware of any correlation at all between nsaids and decreasing someone's hemoglobin. i know that nsaids effect platelets sticking together, but that has no direct effect on actual hgb count, just viscosity, and therefore flow dynamis. maybe a physician or physiologist could pipe in on this one.

There are actually a few ads for this race here in NYC in the subway stations and on some buses. Of course the poster child for the race in Ritz. Though he is only the third best guy that would be in the race - dos Santos and Mackau are better. And he has a chronic history of not showing up b/c of injury.
Its like the Yankees hyping Jeter, except Jeter usually shows to perform.
To get back to the marathon team, Jenkins is not healthy - he DNF'd at Cherry Blossom. When I saw him in Boston a few weeks later he said there's something w/ his back/hip that just "goes" at about 7 miles when running marathon/HM pace. Faster or shorter doesn't seem to be a problem.
My bet is the top 3 from November will in fact show up on the line in Beijing, but it would be cool to see what KK could do.

How does Hall not have a chance of medaling? He just ran 206. Anyone who ran faster than that will not be running in China.

Subway Viewer, I'm not sure I understand your comment. Three of the four people who beat Hall in London, all of whom broke 2:06, will be in the Olympic marathon in Beijing.
