no sell ran austin last year.
They knew they had to turn - the issue was where exactly?
In front, between, or behind the coned signs. Sell went the long route, and it turns out he was supposed to go between the two markers - which he was not directed to do --- and there were no painted arrows on the floor to indicate the route. So Sell ran about 40 yards extra.
It's NOT the responsibility of the athlete to know the course. It is the responsibility of the athlete to run the race. The race director is responsible for informing the course officials to direct the traffic in the proper direction. Poor organization makes a mistake the first time; plain stupidity makes the same mistake the second time. Come on Houston, LEARN from your athlete's mishaps and CORRECT it. Funny how Chicago marathon has NO problems with direction.
I ran the half myself. They had like 5 people with signs and a large lit up board saying turn around here in bright yellow lights.
Im not making fun of Sell by any means but I think Houston did there part to make that turn as noticeable as possible I had like 15 people yell at me to turn.
Yes but they weren't doing that when Sell went by.
Hence the confusion.
That big blinking sign had to be up though. Thats got to be hard to miss that thing was huge.
read the previous post i made about the confusion of behind, between, in front of the various signs. not a problem if they'd put arrows down and had the course monitors active when sell passed.

2 problems.
1. Brian saw the huge sign but didn't know which side he was supposed to go on. In order to play it safe he went around the blinking sign so as not to gain any advantage. He found out afterward that he had run to far. Plenty of monitors to tell the athletes to turn around, but none telling them exactly where.
2. Brian ran the entire course on two different occasions (Friday and Saturday) so he would know the course. But the turn around was not marked until race day. Brian knew approximatly where the turn around was (just before 9 miles) but didn't know exactly. The only way for him to know prior to the race would have been to run a 13 mile warm up or count on the officials.
yeah, because he really turned into a piece of shit running for plasencia.
F*** you.
