AM: walk to school and back

Timm's Hill trail. 96 minutes. Footing was slick wet leaves covering surface mud. Covered maybe 11 miles in drizzly 45F conditions. No wildlife to speak of.Stretched lightly in the shelter and headed for breakfast at HighPoint.

Thanks for the music links, been a long time since I listened to Frampton, you forget sometimes how good music was back then.

I am pleased to see the little conjoined twins Krishna and Trishna have survived a marathon op to seperate them, hoping they continue to thrive. The lady who bought them to Aus was our guest speaker 22 years ago at my nursing grad. An amazing person who seems to have completely missed the genes that pass on selfishness and greed.

Yesterday was meant to be a hot one. Not as bad as it might have been only reaching 38-39 deg C here.

I got out for an (early) hour's run doing the 11+km loop around the town. At 8pm I went out on the bike for a cruisy 45min spin along the creek. This caused quite a deal of excitement among the kangaroo population.

AM: motivational friday, walk to school and back sub 40mins, yeah.

The mild conditions continue. 45F for a low temp., high humidity inspired fog. Catski's for 40 min. Light calesthenics to cool down.

lunchtime:

1hr walk with the "Bride" (in quotes because we have been together 11 years, 2 kids, but no marriage yet) on the beach. Sunny. Regenerated.

after-school walk with Ed and a little buddy in Villa Pamphili. Took the metric wheel along to measure a couple of hills and the outer mud lane of the campone = 584m. Passed by the lake to see the swans and little turtles with a red dot on their snout. Humid and adventuresome. Kids loved lots of fallen pine trunks to some amazing balancing acts...

No running. Time to go with "you make me feel mighty real" bride to the movies. Day off ending, working the weekend.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

here we are back from the honorable NCAA XC break:

Sunday: xc race Corri Per il Verde in a nice wildlife park on the outskirts of Rome (parco della cervelletta) - managed to run at 3:40/km pace for 6.26km race which was pretty unexpected.

Monday: no time to run, but lots of walking, bike commute, exercises at home

Tuesday: 1 hr track session, intense bike commute.

Wednesday could be elusive from a running perspective.

Looking to "prepare" Boston after managing to register (online in the nick of time on the friday before they shut down!!) in a lunge of enthusiasm after qualifying in nycm...only another preparatory and intermediate goal to The MOARG, The Mother Of All Running Gatherings in Gimmelwald, Switzerland, in 2011...

A pleasant 35min kyak on the lake, a strong 40min/8ishkm trail run for monday.

Yesterday I rode 3 strong laps of a 12+km circuit on the mtn bike -92mins. then repeated monday's trail run but a few minutes slower. Did some weight training in my tea break.

Today, "charting new waters" on the lake. An ornithilogical delight for 55mins. Weaving through forests of dead trees. A barefoot run for 40mins on the turf of Bendigo racecourse.

what's up with the constant messing with this thread?......i found it buried yesterday and posted my latest.....(50' of knee aching fun on Saturday).....now DYRT is back on page 1 but with several recent posts, including mine, missing.....hey, brojos, the troll is gone!......you can leave us alone.....Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating.....i'll crawl back into my hole now....

Count your Blessings; mopak,tpcb, and yourstruly were rounded up and branded as 3 blind mice. The intricacies of server loads were explained; i.e. big threads are pulled down prior to major events to free up capacity and prevent crashes. So now we know(or do we??).

Shake it off Jenny. There will be more races to come.

today: again, running elusive as day overcome by relatives and work. some solid condition-saving bike commuting.

Whatever culture, whatever place, The Feast of Giving Thanks, or Being Thankful, is one celebration that should never be forgotten.

Diet-wise, probably needs to be a little vegetable enriched...

festival foods 5 mile; 1200 in the field.I came up with a 34;12, age group 4th. Temp.39F with moderate winds. There were more costumes last year. Winner went 24:42/ Master's; "Goggles" went 27:00 for 4th overall. The Bride PR'd her 5mile @53:42. Daughter and Niece did the 2 mile in 19XX.

Well organized, briskly conducted event.

Yesterday, a strong 3 x 12+km loop on the mountain bike in 93m. Wet, windy and muddy. Splits 32,30 and 31. That last one was tough going as conditions deteriorated.

Ran a relaxed 8kms along the creek trail in 37m, spotted two large herons, different to our usual herons. The creek is flowing again after several heavy downpours.

Also managed 5 x 20 pushups during add breaks while watching TV.

Finally managed to get to Villa Pamphili for a spin till dark. Exercise at the chinup bar. Felt light. The sky over the eternal city is starting to fill with starling formations; some can be extremely ominous, to the point of scary.

-463 to The MOARG

Out to the lake at my new launching point. Planned to go maybe an hour and squeeze in 20-40 mins of running somewhere along the way. Started paddling and couldn't stop. I had google earthed the lake and knew roughly how to get to the Metcalfe Pool. Basically that's the end of the lake so I thought I'd see if I could find it. A glorious day after overnight rain.

This part of the lake is little more than a flooded river. Full of dead trees. Cockatoos, galahs, some unidentified parrots, herons, egrets, spoonbills, pelicans, plovers, swifts, cormorants.

At one point I glided past a mother wallaby with her pint sized joey, both with heads down slurping the water.

An hour into the paddle I reached some steep gorges. the lake split in different directions and I took the right fork, 10 minutes down and I realised I'd taken the wrong one. I decided to head for home rather than keep exploring.

2hr 15 mins of paddling all up. Shoulders and arms were knackered!

But the fun had just begun. As I backed the ute out I managed to bog it in just a one metre patch of mud. As it is basically lakebed and after heavy rain the mud is especially slick. So after 2 hours of digging, jacking up wheels, stacking timber and rocks under wheels etc. I was still stuck. Nothing to do but make a run for it.

So a 4km run up to a farmhouse and 2 very nice gents, beers in hand jumped into their 4x4 and pulled me out.

As for the Metcalfe Pool, a google earth search shows me I was all but there, probably 10 mins down the left fork would have been all that was required. Next time, and I will be more careful where I park.

mopak, sorry about the getting stuck deal. Pardon me for laughing. I'll save my recitation of erstwhile events in miring for Moarg. In the end, the best solution is to swear loud, and swear often.
