Good stuff Brett, I'm surprised you have never ran further. It seems a popular training technique among the Japanese to go very long on the odd occassion.
Driske,I haven't visited Stonehenge, I did come across an impressive stone circle in Keswick, Cumbria, not sure of the type of rock used though.
The Tooborac pub is the classic Aussie pub, now also brews it's own beer too. It isn't the busiest town around, just a general store, a pub and a place that makes and sells bird baths!!
I've just returned home from a long weekend getaway.
Friday my wife and I drove to Porepunkah a lovely little place in the shadows of Mt Buffalo. Our accomodation was as pleasant as one could hope for. Lovely shaded gardens, the Ovens River flowing by, abundant birdlife.
After a pleasant 5km walk with my wife I headed out for a shirtless run around 5pm. I found a track through a logging coup which led up into the forested mountains above the valley. The climb up through the logging coup involved some hand over hand in places. T he track was just 500m long but climbed 200m in height!!
From there it was just normal steep uphill into thick forest. I managed to spook a number of deer -reddish cloured with a yellowish patch on their backside.
Ran up until 45mins was on the clock then turned for home. I found a switchback that took me down through the logging coup to make things simpler. 80mins all up.
Saturday. We drove into the Mt Buffalo N.P. We did some solid hiking. Some steep work up along side the Eurobin Falls first. Then a 6km roundtrip to the high point known as the Horn (1723m asl). The last part of this climbs steeply up rock steps. From the top there are views to nearly everyone of the Australian Alpine peaks.
After returning to our cabin I again headed out and ran the same tracks as the previous day except I pushed on a bit further turning at 50mins. Total run time of 90mins.
Today, no chance to run. We did stop for a quick hike but then it was down to Melbourne for my grand-daughters 2d birthday.
