driske, re NLTU
well, as you might expect from any cerebrally vivacious youth in western civiliazion, i too of course experimented chemistry and the metabolism, during my college years.
"Let's party", or getting "shitfaced," "plastered," "wasted," getting whatever, was the dominant american college culture way-of-life, amongst friends and fellow athletes alike.
If anything i was the odd man out because i wasn't really into it and managed to be functionally uninhibited when sober anyway. A common frat-type reading was "hey, he talks to chicks sober!" Not to mention that "random" was part of my nickname, proudly never offensively.
Being somewhat excessively self-critical, as most of my drinking teammates were way faster than me, on occasions i thought: "Hey, maybe that's it, i need to fuel up!!!"
And so there's a couple of memorable occasions of subtance abuse. For the record, i have never injected anything in my veins.
Whatever running career i had it was shot anyway by freshman year due to chondramalacia and the insufficient "injury" knowledge of those days. At the time i was just an inferior runner either because of low tolerance to pain or low talent. Some of my better teammates, some nationally stellar, i have learned completely lost their interest in running. And considering what they were capable of, that's one heck of an injury if you ask me.
yesterday: 2 hours (out of 2:35) of assistance to buddy CriastianoD gearing up for Berlin marathon. Downtown Rome and back and forth in Parco della Caffarella park; full of stones, impossible without my vibrams. Got "plastered" but after some good rest, seem to have recovered ok.
