I am very glad that you are having success. I also think early diagnosis is the key. Mine took 5 years and was agonizing. i could not play anything right away but that is besides the point.

There are over 18 variations of this injury so there is no 1 blanket statement that can be made. Also know this because it is FACT. When your rectus abdominis tears off the pubis and the aponeurotic plate tears no amount of conservative rehab will put it back together. So to lump all of us into that category is wrong. I do applaud your results and diligence. If I had my druthers i would have not gotten surgery because it is not easy but i understand it was my only option since I had a large focal tear of the whole outer portion of my rectus abdominis. Also we must make sure we are speaking the same language because the surgery that UM in Germany does is more inguinal whereas meyers is rectus abdominis repair as well.

I wish you well and i think the hockey guys and their trainers have probably seen this more than most so i think you are in good hands. Even Boyles conceded that when the RA is torn their is little to do besides surgery.

Great points you made in your reply.....Yea I guess going on 11 weeks out of surgery is still early....I was pretty much turning the corner until the scar tissue broke so thats what makes it frustrating....groin pain is getting better now after about 1 week from the scar tissue breaking...Dr Meyers office did tell me it could feel as bad as the original injury when the scar tissue breaks and the pain could last anywheres from 1 day to 2 weeks....To me you really have to push it to break that scar tissue......I rehabed pretty hard but it didnt break until I played a game and pushed it on the bases and slid into a base...they told me most patients will feel i break between 10-12 weeks out so fomr me it may have broke during a hard rehab session to I guess

My Chiro is very muscle oriented and intune with whats going on as far as what muscle is turned off and where all the knots are that need to be broken up so yes a lot of us will need extra stuff to get back to where we want to be

After the suregery with Dr. Brown I went to a PT for about 2.5 months and had some massage around the repair area and adductors. I avoided hockey, skiing, and heavy gym training. After the Dr. UM surgery I did a month of PT, Corex a few times a week every week, and again avoided the same activities that aggravated things. I carried on the stuff I was doing in PT myself.

Did she cut any nerves when she operated on your son.

Did she give him a rehab-protocol?

What does she say when you email her? What is her explanation?

maybe you dont realise that some of us have been searching for an answer for a very long time. You are lucky that you have this information to hand recently after getting this injury, those of us years down the line have not been so fortunate.

Spidey...........The big thing really is that a lot of us didnt have this forum available to us to know who to go to or what we even had since so few doctors handle this type of injury...so we would be misdiagnosed and continue to pound on it with all types of physical therapy which most of the time will not take care of this problem

Den....all good points you made a few pages back....I guess some of us really cant make a good judgement on how the surgery works for us until about 6-9 months out.......From what I have read a tendon usually takes a good 9 months to fully heal and be 100% strong again

Hey. I had surgery for sports hernia on my left side a year ago with DR. UM. The pain came from playing soccer and made me stop and I got it in my groin and adductor. Since then I have played a lot of soccer. However the last few months I have been getting very light pain that runs from the inside of my leg deep into my butt. I am concerned that it could become a serious problem. Does anyone have experience with this? Any thoughts? thanks

Am I reading your post correct if I say that you have been operated 4 times (2 times on the left side and 2 times on the right) or is it only one time per side?

Have you emailed Dr. UM about your new problem?

It can be so simple that you fascia around your leg that goes up deep inside of your leg is very very tight beacause it has have to compensate for your weak groins. If that is the case I am sure there are people here on this board who have suggestion on how to "loosen up does fascias"

When you decided to go to Dr. UM for the first time was it beacause of this thread and the info here?
