So it is confirmed. Just shy of 8000 meters... The course was short. How short? We will never know.
Considering that Potts ran just about a minute slower (granted, the Big Red were just cruising) on a legit-distance course at Rochester a week later...I would be surprised if the Army race hadn't been at least a half-minute short.
Anyway, the Army men's results from Iona yesterday (9/15):
http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/army/sports/c-xc/auto_pdf/2012-13/box_score/stats_20120915aab.pdfArmy ran well (on what I believe is finally back to the usual VCP course) and their first five finished within half a minute, but they had no man under 26:00. (No one in that good field broke 25:20, though.)
[Ignore the group from Columbia that Army beat--that would have been CU's third string or so.]
Army's women won at the Iona meet:
http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/army/sports/c-xc/auto_pdf/2012-13/box_score/stats_20120915aaa.pdfTheir 1-5 was poor (almost 90 seconds), but that's skewed by their #1, Junta (ECAC 10,000m champ last spring). Their 2-6 finished within a minute and they seem to have a pretty solid squad.
[I realize they were drubbed by Cornell the week before, but the Big Red women have their best team in years--maybe ever--and Junta still split up their pack.]
I know most of the people on this thread don't care much about the women, but as a PL "outsider" I'd be interested to see how you think the league's women will finish at conference.

I am following PL women and will look to begin handicapping the field for the PLC and post-season after the Paul Short. So far the women from Navy, pre-season favorites, look very tough, particularly their 1-2 punch of Beveridge (now in front) and Byrne. Haven't seen Junta run but her results speak for themselves. Bucknell looks very deep with Tolli and rookie Billas in excellent pre-season form. Don't know about Lehigh and Lafayette American has a good runner in Tyburski and Holy Cross runner Hughes ran well at the All-Catholic Schools meet. Colgate is thin with only eight runners and problems at 4 and 5. Raider freshman Brackett broke up the BC women's pack (first team) at UMASS and may give Billas a run for rookie of the year. More to come.
Navy beat American without their number one guy, Robert Patterson.
Had Patterson (son of Mark Patterson, Navy's x-c captain in 1983 and a class act) run like he has so far this season, the point spread between Navy and American would have been about 7 or 8 points more.
Who cares Greg Hill. This is a thread about Elise DeRoo
The Abdirahan family is on family feud right now who else is watching?

In due course, this assertion will garner some debate from me, if not others. Let's see how she and her competition make out in the Paul Short Run at the end of the month. Extra points for going early, though.
Both Rookie of the Week awards to Colgate this week! McConville for the men and Brackett (second time in this young season) for the women. See that and the rest in the link.

Very clever Whammy! They ought to have a button whereby we can recommend you for elevation to bathroom wall writer.

Rustamon, maybe it's time to focus on training and school rather than message boards. Not digging all your colgate-centric posts. Rumor is that you're going to be sent to Brookfield everyday for a week if you keep it up.

I grew up running through Nine Mile Swamp. At least my posts are about XC.

But seriously, let's get back to the good stuff.

Escapee from Alcatraz:
I stand by my posts and my statement. I'm not interested in Johnson's prowess with the ladies, or whether DeRoo looks cute on Facebook. If you are not digging my posts, there are plenty of threads on letsrun where you won't have to read about Colgate. But, while I'm around, that will always be a risk on this thread. If you want to talk about some other team in the Patriot League on this thread, that's your option. Maybe there isn't anything to say?
