Enjoyed a joyous jaunt in the 50 minute range yesterday. Ran a familiar road-trail-road keyhole loop with an extended session on the trails. They were wet/muddy in one spot, but not too bad overall. Planning a day off today. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
Keep up the good work all!
..while ye may...
while time is still aflying,...
friday: obligatory rest, not time to be found anywhere.
saturday: regional kids meet. some '98-'99 girls ran a 1:55 600m extremely well. Much better pacing/rhythm than the boys. Some first timers enthused by finishing. One third place memorable to explain the value of finishing a race: one really fast kid slipped on tartan, didnt get hurt but took a while to recompose from surprise. Annalisa chugged along and made an unexpected podium. Just never, ever become discouraged.

Took yesterday off -- from running, at least -- with the intention of going 50-60 today. But the landscaping duties from yesterday left me a little weary down low, so I cut it to 35 minutes. Maybe I'll try to get out again tomorrow, but that could be a challenge as it's back to the grind then. Still, this was a good week for me; above average running minutes, got lots of chores done, and slept in a couple of days. I think I'm ready to get back to the grind. Ha, ha!
The best part of the week may have been the return to civility on our favorite thread. What a difference one person can make. Ha, ha!
Keep up the good work, all!
lunchtime run with Luca: warm-up then 4x(800m in about 2:50, fast jog rest 2 mins, 200m in about 35s, fast jog rest 2 mins) on grass, felt great
Hey RD, you may have run Skuj off DYRT, but now he's talking smack about you on another thread....

Dont worry Skuj. I've got your back. This guys a looser. I'll cover your training for you so you wont have to put up with RDs shyte:
For the week ending 26 April 2009:
M=25min jog + 4 short accels + 47-46-43-42sec on 90sec + 8min jog. A brisk, taxing session.
T=20min jog + 4 accels + 2km in 7:11 + CVRRTNW 3x1600m in 8:20-6:12-8:00 + 2min jog. Very zombielike. I really wanted to do 3k, but my brain stopped my body at 2k, so I pushed the middle 1600m. Night shifts have gotten to me.
W=30min jog + 4 accels + 53-50-49-48sec on 90sec + 10min jog. Cruisy runs due fatigue yesterday. Pleasant.
T=58min, with 34min to 49min at a moderate tempo.
F=30min + 4 accels + 60-57-56-54sec on 2min + 10min jog. Cruisy and pleasant.

My right ham has been tight, so 2 days off might be a timely blessing. I look forward to a brisk 5k tomorrow. (18:45ish).
I have no idea when my next race is. "The Queen" hasn't decided my immediate work schedule yet. I have to confess that my previous excitement regarding the Island meets (and even the 5th St Mile) has subsided. This may be due to a combination of things.....unknown work requirements, Papahood, and....I'm a slug this year....I just cannot seem to find any speed. Is 47 "the big change"? Hahaha.....
Personally can't nail down when the big change came. Probably a bit different for all of us. Since I took that 20 year slice off from running(i.e.33 to 52,) I don't have a clue when the demise in performance hit. But rest assured it had taken place.
are skuj and RD fishing for a vote of confidence from the regulars or what?? Geez, guys.
3 days of rain has left our rural side roads a miasma of crushed snakes and earthworms.Yuck.
6.4 miles in 58 minutes.

Skuj doesnt need no vote of confidence from you RD. Nice try. Read my lips. Skuj started this thread when it was part 1 and it is his inspiration and sweat that have kept it going. You want all the credit for yourself. Well my name says it all - VBC.
Running Dogg-RD Fan-VBC, I have to say that I'm amused.
I've been busy, and disinterested. (Unlike RD.)
Maybe I'll train for a Marathon!!! :)
...it was either go for a needed, every capillary-and-muscle-cell-is-screaming-for, anti-stress run in the park. Or, contribute to cooking a decent meal for the kids and bride.
And it was...?
Describe My Running Today
The answer harkens back to the old saw "gonzo" ststed.
"Nothing is stranger than the truth"
How can something so inane become so seductively addicting as this website and this thread??
My wife says I don't pay attention to her anymore, at least I think that's what she said.
I'm a bit behind so here's a quick recap.
Sat. 45mins spin on the windtrainer then full time baby sitting duties with my grand-daughters.
Sun. Club 5km handicap race at Mandurang (near Bendigo). 5k warmup, reverse of the actual course. 4th k of the warmup was a technical downhill km in 3.57 just to get the neurons firing. The course is a real little toughy, even tougher after heavy rain and with strong winds blowing. Not a flat spot anywhere and plenty of rough trail, washouts, rocks etc.
Started 5m 55s behind the limit marker and 1m 45s in front of the 14x club champ. Probably 1/2 the field handicapped between 4m 30s and 5m 30s.
The first 2kms is nearly all uphill and I worked thru most of that big bunch by the top of climbs. By the 3k marker I only had a handful of runners ahead of me. 3-4k is very difficult terrain, steep, tricky ups and downs. I made a real charge and by the top of a steep climb 1.1km from the finish I'd caught our limit marker, Rhonda.
Rhonda told me there was just one in front of me. It was 400m runner George (he started 2mins before me)and he was about 80m in front.
At 4km we turn out of the forest and onto a smooth gravel road. It is a 600m climb followed by 350m downhill and a 50m uphill finish. About 200m from the top of the hill Rick (the 14xclub champ) caught me and powered away. He caught George by the top of the hill. Once on the smooth downhill George got those 400m legs working and hung on to Rick, meanwhile I could do nothing but try not to lose ground to the pair of them. In the end Rick took the honous by a narrow margin. I was a well beaten 3d.
I was pretty pleased with my run. Just on 20mins for a very difficult 5k. Rick ran around the 18min mark, by comparison a week earlier he'd run a 3k in 9.30.
A nice leisurely 2k to wind down.
Last night was the usual task of waiting in Bendigo for 2hrs while my son does his marial arts.
I did 1h 45m of very easy running, much of it up and down the grassy fairways of Quarry Hill golf course (after dark).
The only real highlight of the run is the view of Bendigo's wonderful Sacred Heart Cathedral (floodlit) from the top of the hills.
driske,
re your queries: i think mopak's last post is the answer. i got dizzy reading it. almost as much as i laughed on your revisted marital status...
today: wonderful, under-a-drizzle, bike commuting thus far...
And tonight...
A 50 min run around the golf course. Fartlek running, hitting one fairway fast, short jog, next fairway at a strong run, next one fast etc.
This was done right on dusk and as usual I had plenty of marsupial companions.
Hopefully you won't need to sit down to read this post tpcb.
No problem Skuj. Like I said, I got you covered. I can copy your workouts from cvrr and make sure everyone here knows you still training now for a marathon instead of the 800. And if RD snipes I'll smack him down for you. Rest easy my friend.
That explains why I was riveted to the edge of the chair for the duration of the race recap.
Trail racing has that" catapulting across the terrain appeal" and you captured it well mopak.
Bright and calm for a 32 minute catski. AM
tpcb, I envy you for the cadre of friends you've to workout with. Perhaps it's time I spend some effort on building relationships. Even familial ones.
PM: during kids gymnastics, managed to belt a quick 3.5k to the park, then a mile pick up in the mud (yeah!) and 3.5 km back. Bunch of lunchtime guys were there, Paolo, Fabio, Maurizio, Filippo...gotta love this Spontaneous Herding Phenomena...
6 miles at 6:32. Back from 10 days of almost 0.000 running because of injury.
Please weigh in on what the heck I should do now here...http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=2983003
