Anyway, driske got a glimpse and i thank him for the analysis. Although i would say that more than compassion maybe i was trying to empathize. And paradoxically it's amazing how that can seem an invasive process as well. Trying to feel what others feel.
And heck, i'm no fan of the rah,rah,rah! style. And i cringed when i heard things like KGoucher's newfound acceptance of throwing up as part of her running.
But, beyond what i sense, she ran a good race. And anybody writing about it, has a duty to strive to be objective.
Recently here on national tv, there was an amazing interview with World Champion moto GP driver Valentino Rossi. Note I am no fan of motor sports. But this young, phenomenal talent in his field, who got so bored of winning with the best bike he switiched to a slower bike to prove it's MAN not MACHINE, described like i have heard no other contemporary athlete, what COMPETITION is. With an archrival he hated and who hated him from the moment they met, the archrival being Max Biaggi.
And Rossi said that on one particular GP, when they battled it inch by inch at health-threatening speeds, overtaking back and forth, in unparalleled, bigger than life intensity, Rossi said "For ten minutes we were so close, i thought we could be friends."
