Another elliptical experience......still a little unsure about the Achilles.....going on 2 weeks with no running......last time waited 1+ week(s) and it still acted up.....maybe tomorrow?......treading cautiously.....

Keep safe, mopak. Sorry for the terrible time you're all having down there.
Nice 11.5 miles in central park. Beautiful out there.
Personally sighted 2 wolves this year. One in early May.On an early morning run ,I surprized a large jet black wolf feasting on some road side carrion 2.5 miles north of here.
The second one was seen at the road side as a friend and I were in transit to a Marathon in Northern Wisconsin, mid Sept. That one was fluffy and grey.
Local human populace is ambivalent about the growing pack numbers as depredation on livestock and domestic pets is increasing significantly.
In regards to the fires, I echo gonzo's sentiment to keep safe.
Would love to trade you some cold. However any influence man may have had on weather and climate seems to be less than positive. Not sure my hand in matters would be any improvement.
PM.3.5 miles easy
Mopak,
what a tragedy. I enlarged the picture reading
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090208/ap_on_re_au_an/as_australia_wildfires
.
The closest i came to witnessing a mere portion of the mayhem that is devastating your neighborhood was in the island of sardinia about 20 years ago.
Arsonists, as often is the case, wait for strong northerly winds to set the countryside on fire. For real estate speculation in some cases. For psycho vadalism in others, I was freelancing as soundman for Visnews (which then became Reuters Television) and we had to get viz of a german family of four killed in their car by sweeping flames. Risking a little ourselves, we got footage of a rich estate where a Lotus Elan was melted like pancake batter on the garage floor.
Best wishes for a full recovery from this. It is amazing how these things really hurt inside.
Today: Fiumicino half-marathon in vibrams, progression in approx 1h30m. Intense wind, intense humidity felt like running in nets of salt. Fully iodized for the rest of the year. Feeling very fine.
Nice 3.5 hour run on the snowmobile trails, frozen lakes, and dirt roads. It got up to 39F today. I've got spring fever - big time.
A brisk 36 min run around Eaglehawk while waiting for my son to finish his MMA training. A 20min spin on the windtrainer when I got home.
Unfortunately there is no good news from here re the fires. Last count was 135 dead 700 homes lost but with massive ongoing fire activity the assessment has really only just started.
I have grave fears for a number of people I know who live in some of the worst affected areas.
The fire that was in our immediate vicinity has fairly much stalled, although, (ironically) the now cool SW winds continue to be a problem helping it to jump containment lines. It currently poses no major threat to assets other than pastureland.
There remains many major fires still threatening townships, farming and forest communities despite the big drop in temps.
planned to test the leg yesterday with the nice temps, but woke up with stiffness......gonna wait a few more days.....will try the elliptical again today......weight is creeping up......rd>skuj.....my $.02.......I had this Achilles thing once before and it took forever.....depressed....
skuj never lied about a workout, rd did because he wanted to troll and try to bring skuj down for some reason. rd never figured that some people at letsrun actually know a thing or two about running and that 800s in 2min do not equate to an 18min 5k. he also didn't figure that some remember. makes me sick when he goes show us the posts cause he counts on short memories.
Ok, I did the research you've all apparently been too lazy to do for yourselves.. I found NO evidence of an RD 800 workout. I did find the following RD posts:
10' wu, 10 x 300 @ 40" average w/ 100 jog, 10' cd
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=1903398&page=21
Did the 1200s in 3:38, 3:36, 3:40, 3:35.
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=1903398&page=23
If the 800 workout post exists, it has escaped me. Still, these other two give us good insight into this situation. Clearly RD is claiming some extraordinary workout performances. Legit? Also, Skuj is claiming there was another workout for which there is no evidence. Fib?
I have my own conclusions. Let's just say that these posts were easy to find yet many of you chose not to do the research. My guess is you knew what you would, or would not, find.
I'll let you come up with your own conclusions.
finally some data. finally an empirical approach.
Thank-u Researcher, and Evidencer no less. i hope they will sort themselves out. It might even have some entertainment value if they do.
mopak: it is honestly quite moving to be witnessing your situation "live", in the simulation of a group-run of sorts that this thread provides.
Maybe because describing out running day might not at all be the focus of our day, if we were real neighbors with you driske, O2, and the others. Sort of destabilizing in a mental slip-through-my-fingers sort of way. More so because I was recently reading some of your convivial posting about lifestyle which i thoroughly appreciated. Best to you and your loved ones.
today: 50 mins shakeout in Villa Pamphili, then over to mum's house for a plate of pasta. she' pretty depressed about State of the World. Mostly her, mostly her age, mostly news not helping any...
tpcb
Turned the news on this morning to hear that authorities have found 26 bodies in the little hamlet of Strathewan, poulation 400. This little place has 4 glorious hill roads leading from it. Pine Ave, Beale Ave, Bowden Spur and Bald Spur. Bowden Spur, 7.5km long with a 450m elevation gain, was part of the 32km Leukemia Run, a race I ran every year that it was held. Most years at the finish the race announcer was our most famous news reader Brian Naylor. Brian and his lovely wife perished in the fires.
Am I the only one LMAO at those workouts versus a 19:42 5km? This troll must be laughing too, at you tools, for buying into it.

Uh, nevermind 8x800 average 2:03. This one is Cram-like:

And then, tragically, rundog only did 19:something for 5k. Ha!
I've got some land south of Florida for sale, guys.
today: will rest.

What was the rest on those 800s? If it's relatively short, I'd have to say that workout is tougher than the 300s.
Hey run dog what can you run for a 3000?
mopak: My condolences on the disasters striking your area & the losses you are all suffering.
I just said a prayer for your friends, and for yourself, if that's all right with you. I hope that helps in some small way.
Take care.
A 9.7k run with 2 visits to the top of the range, very solid effort throughout.
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers Gonzo, I am certainly safe, secure and well, no real threat for us personally. Our state has been devastated but we Victorians are renowned for our ability to band together and get through these things and we will do so with this.
Last I looked the death toll was 181 but expectations are that it will be between 200-300, certainly hope they are wrong.
Spotting 15kms ahead of itself on 150km.p.h. winds, aided by air temps of 48 C (118F), through drought stricken forested foothills and steep gullies. The flames were up to 50m high. Fire plans went out the window as houses exploded in the firestorm. As one town was burning down, towns 20kms away were igniting. So many people looked out saw smoke then heard the roar and whoosh their house was on fire.
The fires continue to burn despite cool weather, unfortunately the cool change came with strong winds.
The fires will burn until rain comes, so far we have had no recordable rain this year so it could be awhile.
mopak, as unjust as it seems it just doesn't stop raining here. It's been like this since october. Maybe now it is over for a while. At least that's what meteomen are saying. wishing the best for you.
today: few erRUNds (as in on the run) round the neighborhood (bought a bulb at hardware store, bread at the market, dropped off dvds, got fast service i guess for breathing hard in the stores) then ran in the park to finish off with a 2k pickup.
Caught up with buddies Fabio, Angelo and Tonino doing some 400s (uphill/downhill stretch) with 60s recovery, and joined them for good form.
Some scumbag camouflaged as a pleasant elderly gentleman tried to steal my plastic bag (with bread, bulbs, a 5 euro note and loose change) which i had left under a park bench in between reps. But he was overcome with fear when i confronted him right as i was accelerating uphill on the last 30 meters to maintain 1:18.
He got so scared he said he would call the Carabinieri (paramilitary police officers)but not the 911 operator equivalent; he was making as if he "knew" them personally and they would come over to "protect" him. The perpetrator calling law enforcement!! At this point i went apeshit and even though my heartrate had significantly slowed down I must have said something (very convincingly) to the effect of being able to coordinate his immediate kidnap by elite forces to an unknown location and an unknown fate.
He disappeared.
He looked like such an innocent retiree.
