today: 12x400m in 90s, 200m rec in 60s, on mud/grass combo in my vibrams on the big 600m "campone" loop in Villa Pamphili. Slight drizzle. Then 8 minutes free-leggin' on rolling grassy slopes. sublime.
Shoveled snow, worked on my taxes. (Errr...unlike some administration appointees.)
;)
No run today, foot is sore from a rock bruise. Rode a solid hour through flattish trails this afternoon -temp was mid 30s about 90ish F so not too bad for a forest ride. I had alos ridden about 25 mins to work and 10 mins back home.
Yesterday was a nice fast 30 min trail run, really stretched out and also hammered a few hills, also bruised foot.
Did 25 mins of riding to work and the same back home.
I'm hoping that the weather pattern will soon return to normal, although they are talking more 40 degC days before a change on sunday.
the point could be, you are absolutely right about the Aussie's. From a no nonsense taming of a fierce continent to a unique brand of wit, they are a people to celebrate.
May the bruised foot heal soon, mopak.
Sun up run of 4.3 miles in a bundled up 38 minutes.Calm clear and quiet at -14F.
How long before the engineeers punch a tube to the land downunder to trade/mix some of our chill with your oven like heat to produce moderate conditions for the extremes??
Hah.
Those fellows aspiring to high office aren't setting much of an example for the "average Joe "in regards to paying taxes.
Finished AM run with light calesthenics,inc. 2x11 4 ct.st.
driske,
what's this a benevolent interpretation of China Syndrome?
Thank heavens for bike commuting, on busy busy days...
An easy 65min run along the creek then up to Pink Cliffs and Red Hill, the rocks here are actually iron ore, they are twice as heavy as they look. Foot is still a bit sore. Still hot, 39 today. Some talk of 48 on saturday around here but I doubt it.
What we need here is some politicians who have some balls and initiative. We are in the worst drought since federation down here in the south. Meanwhile up north they continue to have devastating floods. Now I'm no rocket scientist but I can't imagine it is impossible to move at least some of that water into areas that have a shortage.
The current philosophy is to have shorter showers, only water the garden with your grey water etc. We have not increased our water catchment in 20 years down here. We have added a couple of million people to our population however.
I confess to ignorance in regards to the China Syndrome. Movie??
Water is becoming an issue of increasing focus. Our Great Lakes region is being eyeballed by the arid West, as a source of precious fresh water.
3.5 miles with our older Border Collie. He's a much better companion now that he's given up the pulling.
Moderate temps under the moonlight.
driske,
yes the movie
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_China_Syndrome
The title refers to the concept that if an American nuclear plant melts down, it will melt through the Earth until it reaches China (see China Syndrome).
The film was released on March 16, 1979, just twelve days before the real-life events at Three Mile Island, Pennsylvania. The Three Mile Island accident helped propel The China Syndrome into a blockbuster.[4][5]
More highspeed bikecommuting. Storing energy, speaking of energy...
A 70min run and a 1/2 hr bike yesterday.
This morning a solid hilly 70min ride early before the hellish day kicked in.
A heartbraking day for many in my state as all hell has broken loose. With temps in the mid to high 40s and 100kph winds the worst was expected and it has arrived. Massive fires throughout the state. We are on alert but as yet not under threat. A large (currently 6000hectare)fire rages about 30km west of us. A massive fire 40 km south has devastated a number of my favourite areas and continues to spread. The major regional centre 50kms north of us has been hit by a major fire just 4kms from the city centre.
today: kids athletics usual fun.
tmw: 1/2 M time trial of sorts
bump
was going to win for the first time in many years, was pulling away from a kid who has beat me the last couple weeks in some local fun run races and i went the wrong way, they had an arrow pointing straight, i just saw the arrow and thought it meant turn, if they would have just had nothing i would have went straight. but it felt good to get out and lead a little. i went wrong way at around the 3 mile mark of a 4 mile race
db
8x800m av 2:03.
Ran with running club. Around 4 miles or so. Sidewalks and back roads were icy, 2 people almost hit the deck. It felt good to get out, the temps reached 40 degrees after starting a 1-degree F at 6:44AM.
A relaxed 75 min run out through the hills. Cooler this morning after Hell on Earth yesterday. Top temps of 47.9 deg celsius and winds in excess of 100kph.
The nearest bushfire is now fairly well contained about 15kms from here. Fires are still burning out of control through much of Victoria. Some of my favourite little towns are no longer after fireballs rolled through them last night. Kinglake, Kinglake West, Marysville, Narbethong all glorious forest towns no longer exist.
So far 26 bodies have been found but we fear far worse.
theres more than one person who gets hat 8x800m in 2:03 joke.
Heart felt regards to the people of your district. Nothing in my experience compares to the devastation and conditions that befall your area. I can't imagine. My sympathy's for those losses to your countryside.
Daughter's last ski race as a High Schooler today.Afterwards the Wife and I ventured out for nearly 2 hours on one of the more remote trails. It was named "wolf tracks", and there were wolf tracks to be seen. Temps at a balmy 36F made for sticky snow.
Hey Driske do you ever see wolves out there when xc skiing? That would be pretty cool. Can we have some balmy 36F if you can spare some?
News continues to be worsening from around the state. So far 35 lost lives but we expect worse news on that front.
Plenty of heroic efforts particularly from the CFA -our volunteer firefighters. One fire which started 40kms south of me has now devastated 100s of thousands of hectares and has now joined with another fire of similar size.
Another fire which started in the suburbs of my regional capital, burnt within 2kms of the city centre.
