14M long run along C&O Canal in D.C. First 7M ~6:35 pace, second 7M ~6:00 pace. Nice to have even slightly warmer temps in the low 40s. Looking forward to spring.

In our race you would have placed around 76th out of 1700 plus.Don't think any prizes though.76th is good.

Australia Day today, the day we celebrate the arrival of the first fleet in 1788.
Rolled through a solid 45mins on the mtb out to One Eye forest and back. Surprisingly quick as it was a weaving rough trail through old gold diggings.Lots of ditches, rocks, loose sand/dirt and fallen branches. Straight off bike and ran 6.5k/33mins up to the rock then down the other side and back up and down to home. It's pretty rugged trail in places -I can't ride the mtb up without putting the foot down a few times.
30' on the roads.....started well, but Achilles acted up after 1M......hobbled home......will shut down the running for at least 1 week.....elliptical time.....
bike commute
Typical January morn in the midwest.-19F calm and sunny.
4.5 miles on the nearby snowmobile trail, before the gearheads come to life. One snow bank bore witness to the struggles of 2 birds. One a raptor, the other a wild turkey. Bad day for the turkey.
Yesterday was a 48min mtn bike ride in the morning, right on sunrise. Temps were already high 20s C. Some nice rough minor tracks and a few grinding hills. In the evening I just did another 30 min run up the hill behind my house then down the other side and back. 40 deg C, so pretty bloody hot!!
Today, 50min mtn bike in the morning, temps already low 30s. Did a head count of the kangaroos down 3kms of Forest Drive. 78, plus a few joey heads poking out of pouches. 24 in the mob around our house, one got killed by a car a few days ago. Also a couple of large male wallabies, 2km apart. That usually means 2 pair and probably a couple of joeys. The wallabies are clever, they stand still and look like tree stumps. When they do take off they go in different directions, so, often you only see the one.
Ran the same course as yesterday this evening. It was 43-44 deg C today so I waited until 7pm, only 41 by then, still pretty spicey but a bit more manageable as the sun is pretty low at 7. Not sure of the temp conversion but 38 is over 100 F so I'm thinking 44 is around 110F plus.
sunny. swamped by family errands but managed to find 1 hour to go to the track and do quick 18x100 wu routine plus some floating laps around the track.
I love quadrupedia.
Pretty much a repeat of yesterday, still stuck in the middle of a heatwave. 45min on the bike at sunrise, only 28 degC but quickly up into the 30s.
Had to run at 5.30 and it was 43 degC. Just did the same run as the last few days, 30 mins up and down the hills in the National Park, some shade even at 5.30. Felt pretty good despite the heat and actually was a minute quicker than the last few days.
They're predicting 43-45 again tomorrow but a bit cooler saturday, 38-40 and a "cool change" sunday, 30 deg.
Just thinking, still haven't had any rain in 2009 as far as I remember. The McIvor Creek which fronts our property is all but dry save for the waterhole at the front of our place. I suspect we are heading for drought year number 11.
hit the elliptical for 30'....Achilles feels much better....but I'm sticking to my plan of 1 week off from running....I know the little bugger is trying to sucker me into coming back too soon.....patience.....
track, morning, wore shoes to keep feet warm ( a very old pair of very comfy Mizunos)
8x1000m, 400m active recovery at 3:55/km pace.
Then 18x100m cd routine, exercises. Sunny and kida musical.

I assume you are referring to Skuj. Yes, he's back. Can we please make an effort to ignore the obvious trolling and Run Dogg bashing that is sure to follow? Guys like him have a psychological problem where they crave attention. If we ignore him, maybe he'll go away again. Thanks.
clarifying:
cd = cool down
kida; should have been "sunny and kinda musical"...
That's wicked heat indeed.News reports in the US tell of tennis being played at 130F at your Open. -20F isn't much of a trade off. But adding a layer or two makes it doable.
Your a durable sort, mopak. When we hit 90F+(34C) I'm forced to shut down. Maybe a bit of light biking works, but running puts my pulse through the roof.
What stress can the wildlife handle without adequate water?
Snow machines still cruising, I'll take my run later.
I'm pretty well acclimatised to heat and find that runs of 30-40 mins don't bother me at all. Much longer and heat stress and dehydration kick in. Doing the running up the back of my property through the National Park means lots of shade. That's the key as direct sunlight can really knock you. We are about 130kms from the tennis but on the inland side of the Great Divide so we don't get any coastal breezes.
The roos and wallabies spend their days in the forest avoiding the sun and feed from dusk til dawn.
There is still some water in old mining dams in the forests and in farm dams adjoining the forests. Our creek has a couple of good waterholes left. The golf course is popular for wildlife as they have stored recycled water in dams plus green feed.
We actually had better rains this year gone than the previous two. Still well below average however. Hopefully we get some Feb and March rain.
As for today, morning mtn bike ride of 50 mins into Spring Plains forest and back across the Argyle. All nice easy, sandy trails. Weather was pleasent enough as I was out before the sun got above the ranges.
40s again this afternoon, the plan is to wait until dark tonight and hopefully get an hour of running done with maybe a few windsprints.

tomorrow long run planned
Picked up a smattering of Australian shiraz offerings. Black Swan,Yellowtail,Alice White,Jacob's Creek, and Climbing. So much wine, so little time.
Skied for 1;45 on the warmest day we've encountered in 6 weeks. High of 38F(2-3C) felt almost summerlike in contrast to the protracted bitter cold we had been immersed in.
A bit more pleasant today, currently 36 C and a nice breeze blowing.
Ran 80mins through the Argyle and One Eye forests this morning. Was struggling so cut it a bit short, just feeling flat.
Ran 80mins pretty fast at 6pm yesterday when a cooling southerly dropped temps from 43 to 28 in just 10mins. 2 good climbs to start with then out along the creek and around the golf course.
I did a solid 80 min ride yesterday morning, temps already at 38 (100F). I did the climb up to the top of Mt Ida and back with a few variations -to avoid chasing a time.
Driske,I also have a bottle (unopened)of Yellowtail, I'm not sure whether the grapes were grown around here or not. Many of the big wineries are buying or leasing farms in our region to grow shiraz/cab sav grapes.
I hope you enjoy the fruits of Australian labour lol.

I'm sure you will find the DYRT crowd is certainly above being fooled by trolls, even that one. Ha ha! Fortunately he has enough sense to leave us well enough alone. He's been burned enough and no longer goes near the fire. Ha ha!
I am still sitting on the sideline contemplating my future. The extended rest has given my body an opportunity to heal up, not to mention 'bulk' up. Ha ha! I now know that I will definitely return to the roads, but will likely take a less formal approach than in the past. It's a new month; maybe the time has come to lace 'em up again. I'll be sure to let you all know!
Keep up the good work, all!
