A few plattsburgh kids took the early lead. Berube made a big move around 10 laps in. Avery responded and went with him for 2 or 3 laps then dropped back to the chase pack. The chase pack ran pretty even until the last few laps when hopkins made a small move . Avery made a big move with two laps to go. Avery ended up on top with francia closing hard and hopkins within a couple of seconds. Berube just stayed as far ahead as he needed to the rest of the race. Excellent race execution by Berube. It would have been exciting to see Avery challenge Berube longer, he looked very in control the fresh of the race. Hardwick looked awful for being the second seed coming in finishing 10th.
Geneseo takes the men's title in a convincing fashion. Won the long, triple, 800, mile, 3k, 5k, DMR. Louis impressive, winning in the long and triple. Does he triple normally, or was he just doing it for Sunyacs? Novaro closing very fast in both the mile and 3k to get 1st and 2nd.
I believe that this is the first time in the history of the Sunyac Indoor Championship that one team, Geneseo, won every distance event (800, mile, 3k, 5k dmr). I've gone back as far as I can and have not seen it happen. If true, congrats to a great bunch of distance guys at Suny G for a historic performance!!!!

Actually the chase pack was close for the last mile. Only 3 seconds between Avery to Wortner. Jack Bennet had the surprise race of the day with a 6th place, 15:27. Hardwick must have been sick or something. He looked even worse in the dmr.
Hard to believe that Geneseo is the first to win all the distance events what with Cortland's great National XC Championship group in 2008 and all. I'll have to check it out.

Sunyac Fan: you missed Cortland's 2008 indoor team. They won all 5 with Wager, Henry, Niko V, Scram and some others. Only other one I could find after going back some 15 years. I've got to think Fredonia, in their heyday when they won 16 indoor championships in a row, might have done it too.
Just looking at it quick i think the 5k had all 8 scorers be completely different then last years 2011 sunyac 5k. thought that was pretty interesting
No geneseo domination in the 3k/mile this year?

1 Eddie Novara SR Geneseo 4:18.50E 10
2 Pat Fannon JR Cortland 4:19.84E 8
3 Alex Brimstein JR Geneseo 4:23.30 6
4 Mark Streb SR Geneseo 4:23.62 5
5 Tom Clark JR Geneseo 4:23.72 4
6 Alex Belensz SR Geneseo 4:28.61 3
seems pretty dominating to me, at least for the mile.
I like that kid Pat Fannon
So who is racing ECAC's? Are there going to be any good races to qualify for nats?
Well, I saw that the DMR looks stacked tonight and there is a webcast: http://www.youtube.com/user/armorytrack/featured?v=rqO-2bOJt7E
Interesting nationals meet. Berube ran great for 4th in the 5k, Novara a bit off. Naylon ran solid in the mile. Cortland's 4x4 running solid to get 4th. Louis WAY off in long, doesn't even score after being #1.
Now on to outdoors... anyone got predictions? I've got some distance...
800 - Carter, Ngabo, Matthews
1500 - Novara (if he runs it), Amengual, Berube
3k St - Brimstein, Piacentini, Millar
5000 - Berube, Novara, Clark
10000 - Novara for sure, kind of up in the air after that. Wortner should be solid after a good indoor season and running 32:0X last year. Mateer and Biondi both had tough indoor seasons after going sub-32:00 last year. I don't Avery has outdoor eligibility. Hardwick, Hopkins and Francia should be in the discussion but none are experienced in the 10k. Also, will we ever see a Berube 10k?

Way to pick all Geneseo people to win...

Well Geneseo won every distance event at indoor SUNYAC's so it makes sense. Plus Brimstein with his 8:33 3k is a great pick for steeple and Novara is the fastest returner in the 10k.

I have Millar medaling in my steeple bracket as well...
Rationale:
1) Dropping a solid 1 second from his freshman year steeple time to his sophomore year
2) Placing a solid 7th at sunyac indoors 3K
3) Shaving the grizzly beard
3) Shaving the grizzly beard
Tom Hopkins had a better beard
I like these predictions, i think amengual will be a threat in the mile in outdoor. i think carter will win the 800 due to the fact that he can double in the 800 pretty decent compared to the rest of the pack. I dont see novara running both the mile and the 10k but i could be wrong.
COME ON SUNYAC. Bring this thread back alive i want some results and predictions!
Cortland Distance getting there stuff together finally. Good season opener for them and bounce back from their Cinderella cross-country season. 3 guys under 15:30 in the 5k and the top 3 spots in the steeple. Good performance by Clark and Mateer at W&J invite, Also solid 800 early in the season by Tall Nate.
I'm calling a Geneseo 1-2 in the 800 with Carter and Bronson
