What does it take for another team to show they are capable of beating them? I think Bucknell should beat them. Horning McGowan Dugan Garcia and Oesterlin as a whole are better than Satterwhite Kennedy Calcagno Rynning and Burns imnsho.

Should they beat them? Absolutely. Will they beat them? Starting this far behind and their inability to peak at the right time, yeah they have no chance.
McGowan didn't run... Anyone know why? Saw him at the meet jogging the course for at least an hour.
After this weekend, I'm going to go with this:
1) Navy
2) Lehigh
3) American
4) Army
5) Bucknell
6) Colgate
7) Lafayette
8) Holy Cross
Besides a swap in 2nd and 3rd, it'll be an exact repeat of last year. Obviously a long season to go though...
Do any of you stat nerds have a rough comparision between Lehigh and Colgate's courses? Would be cool to compare.
Lehigh's course is Rupp-certified and Colgate's is not.
Colgate's course has hills, its real XC. Lehigh's is a grass track.
Agreed, although both courses are quite beautiful. It's hard to get a good comparison between the two due to the inclement weather at Lehigh the past few years, but I think most people might say around a minute slow at Colgate.
The lehigh valley is one of the worst places in the world for allergies. Gaylen Rupp would have to wear his allergy mask or one of those breathe right nose strips on Lehigh's course. Not Rupp certified.

Allen just didn't look that good. Johnson seemed like he was doing a rather odd workout. Hammer the uphills and relax everywhere else? This strikes me as odd because he's never had that M.O. in the past. I'm sure by the end of the year these two will be up near the front though. Great run by Pope by the way.

Johnson was clearly taking it easy. We'll see at Paul Short if he's in shape or if he's a little behind and has been nursing an injury or whatever..
How about Beveridge? I heard her 15:51 was the second fastest ever. Is that because this course never gets run? Did everyone know Syracuse would show? I'm figuring they must have split their squad. Of Syracuse's top four (women), none were returning scorer's from last year. They all had serious credentials, mind you.

Why the phock would you enter a race and do that? Why not just race if you're still going to run the entire thing...

Beveridge took first place at Colgate’s Harry Lang Invitational on Saturday, besting the field of 104 runners by 11 seconds. She led the entire 4,200-meter race and her time of 15:51.00 was the second-fastest ever run on the course. Beveridge helped Navy to a third-place finish in the 11-team field. The 2011 Patriot League Rookie of the Year receives her first M-F Athletic Female Runner of the Week award.

What's crazy is that she'd still be almost 50 seconds behind DeRoo in her prime. (over a 4200 meter course mind you) How did that girl never become an all-american?

DeRoo's run in 2010 was sick. The course record is safe for years. Did she ever run even close to that time (15:08) again? If Beveridge was the second fastest at 15:51, then maybe it's time to start asking questions about that 15:08. No?
You could ask questions about the 15:08 but she beat Burns by a similar margin the next meet. The meet after that in the Gold Race at Paul Short the only person that beat her was Emily Infield (by 5 seconds). If you dont know who Emily Infield is she's pretty good. NCAA national champ, second in XC last year and I believe she's an 11 time all american. DeRoo also beat a few all americans in that race.
She also won Patriots with a 50 second margin of victory over Burns that year too. (running 19:17) So I think the 15:08 was legit.

She was at her all-time best (and at an AA level) at a point in the season that they don't hand out All-American awards.
At nationals that year I think she was in like 25th place at the halfway mark and faded from there. Could have been sick, injured, etc.
