Just Do it.

We need safe haven before I will trust to repeat anything,
though it is quite innocuous.
Any suggestions how we could regroup if they ever put us totally out of commission.??
driske,
Sugggestions? Haven't a clue. What shall we do? The Grand Cayman? Lichtenstein?
What shall we do?
today: very tired, all day at the Miguel race. Processed gazzilion chips, cleaned, crowd controlled and a major, major bike commute.
I am exhausted.
Stunning skies peppered with stars. 2.5 miles ran, then walked in to better appreciate the heavens.
7F and tranquil.
Lichtenstein, Grand Cayman, that would be dreams come true. May have to settle for a side trip to runnerspace for the time being.
driske: what are the odds you and I become the only posters on this thread?
today: bike commute
the point could be;
Are we a dynasty of the last men standing, or wearing the dubious distinction of "thread killa's"??
3 hours chugging along on snowshoes. Hip flexors need the work.
An easy 5k this pm. inc 5x100m strides. 36degC.
Did an easy enough hour on the mtb this morning about 6am.
Yeasterday morning was 55mins pretty solid run finishing with a steep climb through the National Park. It was already 26deg C at 6am. Rode a couple of k to and from work. 43deg C by the time I finished work.
Monday was a nice cruisy hour on the mtb in the forests. Also did 1km swim with my wife.
Sunday was an all out effort to crack the hour on the tough 23km mtn bike ride from my place to the top of Mt Ida and back. 37.15 to the top was on target but struggled the last 1/2 of the return leg. 62.05. Best time (in recent years)was a 65 a couple of weeks ago.
30' on the elliptical yesterday....still babying the Achilles....maybe I'll test it this weekend.....if it's not too cold...
mopak, O2,...here we Go AGAIN!
We shall endure.
Today: bike commute. Family is keeping me busy... accumulating energy...
I thought I better get back into this thread.
This morning was a 50min progressive run in the forests then finishing with 6x100m across the picnic ground next to my house.
Sluggish start but got motoring the 2d 1/2. Was a little distracted early on as I was looking for a bird's nest. My son informs me the rare square tailed kite has a nest and 2 chicks in the Argyle Forest. Didn't spot it however.
Also rode bike up to work and back, just a few kms each way.
A warm morning which now has turned into a very ugly afternoon. 38 deg C with a scorching hot, blustery northerly. The sky is full of dust from the Mallee up north.
The next 3 months hold little time or energy for cohesive training of any sort. My focus must, of necessity, turn to work related activity as spring and the harvest of maple syrup approachs.Current Snow depth makes the wearing of snowshoes advantageous for covering the ground needed to do our prep and maint. duties.
It's an adventure race of sorts with the reward being dozens of barrels of the best natural sweetener on earth.IMHO.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, it's good to hear from mopak, O2, point could be, and crew.
Light day. Did a 20min ride finishing at work. Rode a quicker 30 mins after work. Went to the lake and did a 25min fartlek run with some strides and hill srints, some soft sand hills.
Driske, maple syrup is very much loved in my household. Never gave much thought to how it got to my table before.
It will soon be grape picking season here. My little town of 2600 (and 26,000 kangaroos) produces one of the world's finest shiraz.
gents:
should be back into a rhythm, i hope. I worked out that i more or less did not run for two weeks.
Finally got in a 3x2000m at 4mins/km pace, with a one 1k recovery at 4:15, for 9k total. Should have done 5 of them but had no time. Plus after such a long break... Felt ok. The bike-commuting is a blessing. It's like leaving an appliance on standby...
Yesterday, went to the funeral of this peer who died after he felt ill at the race on sunday before even starting, while he was warming up. Well know athlete, of national caliber in the past. Will be missed. The church was filled to capacity...
the point could be,
Sorry for the loss of your friend and fellow. My respects to you and condolences to your community.
mopak,
Does any of that Shiraz have a brand name??
Cold again. Legs need a day off the snowshoes.

sure i ma not he only who noticed some thread pruning.
Is it no coincidence that it occurred at Fleetfoot's change of "subject" line?
Is this one of the most MODerated threads or what?
Ha, ha! It looks like our old troll friend has found a new name. 'Fleetfoot' just doesn't seem to fit, given his history. Oh, well, we all choose our own, don't we! Ha, ha!
Anyway I guess the mods don't understand or appreciate the benefit of the remarkable burp.....oops, I almost wrote it. Ha, ha! Don't want any more unnecessary editing around here. Do we?
My own running has again been reduced to near nothingness, I'm afraid. I won't bore you with the details, but I remain adament about getting back as soon as possible. I promise to continue the occasional visit here in the mean time. Hopefully I can become a more regular contributor in the near future.
Keep up the good work, all!
55 min easy at -4 degrees...not much fun, but got the work done.
Made grunting noises while sliding on the ice in -14 degree wind chills on an eight miler and contemplated my two year bout with "vagitus" wondering if I'll ever be tough again, etc.
Always sad to hear of the loss of a fellow runner, obviously well respected.
Did 1h 30 on the mtn bike through the One Eye forest on saturday morning. Ran 50mins around the golf course on saturday arvo. This was a fartlek session, basically accelerating up the fairways then cruising around the edge of the greens then jog across to next tee and do the same. A good session.
Today was a nice solid 1h 30 min run from home into the Argyle forest then across to some hilly trails in One Eye forest and home along the old railway line (abandoned).
Then it was off to the mo-in-laws 70th birthday on a paddle -steamer on the murray river, then far too much to eat. Came home and hiked up to the Rock with my dog and ski-poles in the dark.
Driske, our shiraz is Heathcote Shiraz. I'm no expert on wine so can't tell you what's what among the various labels.
Many of the bigger Australian wine makers grow their shiraz in the region. There are dozens of small boutique vinyards around as well. Wild Duck Creek, Idavue, Milvine, Louis De Castella, Shelmerdine, Flynn's, Shadowfax and McIvor are just some of the vinyards I see on runs and rides.
Condolences for 'the point could be'. Sorry for your loss.
All my workouts have been abbreviated (all 20-mins or under using recumbent bike, x-country ski treadmill or short runs...it's been the coldest winter we've had in a while...no more comments on burpees as I have not done any this week and it seems to annoy the MODS), and yesterday I discovered my watch had given up the ghost. 3rd watch in
10 months, they just simply stop working.
Guess that takes care of my "run by minutes" resolution for this year.
-7 F here today. Brrrrrrrrrrr.
Guys, thanks for the thoughts. Riccardo De Paolis died at 45. He was a national caliber runner and had distinguished himself in the 3000st. Had become a kinesiologist and was a permanent reference point at the Paolo Rosi track. Had wife and two daughters.
Died of aneurisma of the aorta while he was warming up. All fellow athletes pretty shocked yet all agree there was not much that could be done. He died while warming up for the Corsa di Miguel.
One of the reasons why i like this thread is because it is another, welcoming place, where i found what i did one running-year ago, i.e. the same race i ran today.
This was the entry from last year:
Tre Comuni 22.3km roadrace on the outskirts of Rome. Colder tha a witch's... used Vibram 5Fs with vaseline on the toes
Not an inch of flatness: first all downhill then all uphill.1h36mins
Can't comlain. But this is the best to hope for without running, just biking. More sleep would help...
Can't complain, though. Injuryfree streak continues.
THIS YEAR: same set-up as last year, a little warmer, still cold. Riccardo was commemorated with aminute of silence at the start and his closest friends and clubs wearing a long-sleeved jersey with one of his phrases. Did it as a no expectation ( ran once in two weeks) long run, yet managed to go more than a minute faster 1:34.56.
Pleased. Calves a little tight. Want to go this pace for a marathon...
