Coach Gulden led Bucknell to NCAA's from '78 to '82. Team was 12th in '82. Also went in '86, '87, '88 and '91. Coach also led the women to their only NCAA appearance in 1999.

What were they doing then that they aren't doing now and why did they stop?
Let's stop talking about Bucknell's glory days and get back to talking about this season. Here's how I see it stacking up at the end of the season.
1.) Lehigh: That junior class is too nasty for Navy and a handful of sub-15/sub 9:20 guys round out the top 10.
2.) Navy: It's going to be close
3.) American: Allen and Pope should be in the top 10
4.) Bucknell: Dugan, McGowan and Krystek will be good. Little bit of a drop after them
5.) Army: Seem to be a bit down. Galindo could be a top 10
6.) Lafayette: Keep moving up.
7.) Colgate: They've got the one stick but after that did they even finish a runner in a distance event at the league track meet?
8.) Holy Cross: Nothing to see here folks.
Not totally relevant to this season, but Patriot League members will have one more team next season toeing the line in addition to BU.

Although they don't have indoor and outdoor track for men.

Navy has to be the favorite until another teams shows they can beat them.
I think Colgate is 6th...hard to finish 7th in this league with a top 3 finisher.
Bucknell could make a run for 3rd
"Navy has to be the favorite until another teams shows they can beat them."
What does it take for another team to show they are capable of beating them? I think Bucknell should beat them. Horning McGowan Dugan Garcia and Oesterlin as a whole are better than Satterwhite Kennedy Calcagno Rynning and Burns imnsho.
OK, elsewhere on this board there is an acknowledgement that the best Patriot League race this weekend is the Harry Lang Invitational at Colgate with Navy, Bucknell and Holy Cross coming to Hamilton. As this is the site of the PLC in late October, prospective PLC contenders could see this as an opportunity to run the course under less pressurized terms. That said, Bucknell has their opener the day before (8/31 Bison Invitational) and Navy races the week after. Who will Bucknell bring to Hamilton? How about Navy?
I'm focused on the women here as that is my rooting interest. Navy looks impossibly strong both up front (Byrne, Beveridge) and with depth. Last year's PLC runner up Bucknell still has Tolli and a slew of freshmen who have run around 11:00 for 3200m in HS. (I like Meghan Carroll.) Colgate is returning Keene from 2011 and has some strong freshmen (Brackett 18:43 5K; 10:57 2 mile; 5:07 mile and Davidson 18:42 5K; 5:07 mile) but only seven runners in camp as of last week. Holy Cross has Hughes (who was huge in the Championship season in 2011 except for the PLC) returning but not much else.
I'm willing to bet all the Colgate women will be there but what about the others. Anybody know? Anybody care?

+'Murican, no, no.
I know for a fact that she won't recruit athletes with known eating disorders. Turned away Amber Trotter a few years ago. Maybe the culture on campus promotes them.
She does preach abstaining from alcohol. Would not recruit two from our local high school with known eating disorders.

You're talking about Nardeli? Didn't really get a good vibe from her. And her team has like 7 girls on it. So if 3 get hurt this year we could get to see a discus thrower or a pole vaulter at xc patriots. But what do I know, she's gotten results recently so I suppose she's doing something right.
The assistant coach (not sure if he's still there) seems like he's a great guy though.
Yeah, her assistant is a good dude, really knows a lot about the sprints, hurdles, and mid-distance. He used to be a champion hurdler himself and I wouldn't doubt his ability to drop a low 50. in the 400 currently.
Also, predictions for tomorrow at Colgate's Harry Lang meet: Will Johnson win easily and by how much?
Anyone else on Colgate's team that can get it done and make them a little more competitive this year?
They didn't really lose much in terms of XC guys last year and their guys have gotten an opportunity to improve and get over injuries, so looking to see something good from these guys soon!
Lehigh ran well without Sam Bernitt and Jim Miller. Contenders.
Will Volkman is very good.
Bucknell looked okay but I'm sure they'll look better at Colgate.
Army looked...I don't know how they looked despite seeing results.
Results from Hairy Lang?
Lehigh doesn't give a sh1t.
