Unwise? The Olympic team isn't selected. Runners earn their spots. Did Bumbi refuse to autograph your shoes or something?

Thank you for stating the obvious... my 4-year-old niece wasn't aware of the proper procedures. However, that doesn't change the sentiment behind my previous comments.

You are either new to the LRC community, or you don't follow the sport too closely. Bumbi's behavior at the Olympic Trials was deplorable.
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=4650588Lagat on the 10000.
Rupp not making the 2016 team is the worst prediction I have ever heard unless he is injured.
I've always wanted to see Lagat in a 10,000!!!!!!!
I didn't think I needed to inform someone on a running forum about selection procedures but saying that having him on the Olympic team would be unwise implies that there is someone in that situation making an unwise decision. If you talk like you have no clue then I have to assume you don't.
Leaning at the line in a race is immature and deplorable? This isn't Hershey track and field. Grow some balls.

Did you read the entire conversation? Either you didn't, or you actually did and you still have no clue.
To summarize the conversation for our mildly illiterate Boston Billy wanna-be, Bubmi went out of his way to lean at the finish of his 5,000m heat in order to "defeat" Rupp, despite the fact that there was no value added to doing that. Since you apparently aren't a big fan of the sport, let me emphasize that the 5,000m final isn't contested in lanes so winning your heat is inconsequential. The only reasons for Bumbi to do that would be to fit in an immature little gotcha against Rupp and to boost his own ego.
In the 5,000m final, Bumbi was running behind Rupp with nobody else near them (either in front or behind), and he overtly reached out and shoved him in the back. Classy guy!
Does anyone else here think Lagat has one more Olympics in him?
Actually, Rupp doubling in the 10K/Marathon is the worst prediction ever. Even if its not a prediction to even suggest its a possibility is plain wrong.

A heat is still a freakin race. If he wants to lean to try to win, I don't see the problem in that. Maybe some sensitive people do, I don't.
Shoving happens in races. Americans should get more used to that and maybe we won't have our top guys dropping out of races after getting pushed by people half their size.
Grow some goddamn balls you overly sensitive twat.
I like how you act as if the thread you referenced was a successful Platonic search for the truth. In reality, that thread consists of you baiting other posters with increasingly preposterous assertions about the character of a guy you have likely never met. I hope Bumbi makes the team just so your inappropriate and bizarre dislike of the guy will be inflamed even more. And as the other guy said, grow some balls. Go Bumbi.

Well, it's difficult to come up with a counter-point when you are obviously much more articulate than I am. Well done, sir!

...several different people emphasizing just how immature Bumbi's antics had been. Once again, I have been involved with the sport either as an athlete or a coach for over 30 years, and I have never seen a person lean to "win" a 5,000m heat! That was much more pathetic than competitive. He subsequently shoved Rupp in the back during the 5,000m finals for no apparent reason, which simply confirmed what many of us within that original discussion had suspected: Bumbi is immature and unprofessional. That's not the type of person you want representing us at the Olympics.
Also several different people emphasizing that everything was being blown out of proportion.
Do you have a video of him shoving Rupp in the back?
I would be surprised if Rupp's priority for 2016 is not on the Marathon. He will have turned 30 by the time of those Olympics. It would not surprise me if he runs the 10k at Nationals after having already secured a marathon spot, like Kara Goucher did in 2009 and like Shalane Flanagan did this year. I also think next year, 2013, will be his last year of focusing primarily on the track before he moves up to begin focusing on the half and full marathon.

Including at least one Georgetown alum... not exactly an objective source.

Yes, on my DVR. I'm sure that you can find it online somewhere.
Bumbi is more mature than Rupp, which is why reading your posts is very entertaining.
Was it a shove, or a friendly push?
Both happen often and its extremely hard to shove someone without taking them down, Rupp seemed completely unaffected by the "shove" in question.
Never seen such a vast overreaction about someone leaning at the line of a race. It doesn't matter what the implications or subtle gestures that were involved. You're all posturing on something you'll have never have any concept or inclination of happening.
Get over it, Rupp did what in the Olympics? Technically they're both Prelim Race Heros as the USAs are largely irrelevant. Bumbi actually stands to benefit more from not going and training through them.
Then again, there is no "Thyroid" medication for him to take like Rupp has.
Good so we can all agree that referencing a LetsRun discussion thread is a pretty bad way to prove a point.
You might have a point with the shoving, I'll have to watch it again. But about the racing to the line in the prelim, Rupp did it too. Why no hate for him? If it's "just a prelim" then why did he feel the need to run the last 800 so fast? Bumbalough may have been trying to give Rupp a little F-U but Rupp was doing the same thing to the rest of the field. Bumbalough was just the only one to challenge him a little. In the same situation I probably wouldn't have done the same thing because you want to save it for the final, but calling it deplorable is going a bit far.

It was a shove, and it was problematic enough that Rupp regained his balance, turned around, and glared at Bumbi.

Actually, it does. It makes a world of difference. With absolutely nothing on the line, Bumbi looks like an immature jerk.

There we go! I would expect nothing less from one of the LRC community's most prolific trolls. Thanks for coming through in the clutch!
BrandonStark wrote:

Seriously? You actually can't see the difference?
Rupp finished up with a strong, lengthy surge at the end of the race. Bumbi leaned at the finish line with the specific purpose of "winning" their heat. Claiming that "Rupp did it too" is a ridiculous comparison.
BrandonStark wrote:

I'm sorry, but once again your comparison is horrendous. In the other 5,000m prelim, were Lagat and Lomong giving the field "a little F-U" by utilizing their kick at the end? No, they simply finished strong, eased through the tape without any childish leaning, shook hands, and moved on. It stark contrast, Bumbi really was passing along a little F-U, and the only thing it actually accomplished was to make him look like an immature jerk.
BrandonStark wrote:

To clarify, I was saying that Bumbi's overall behavior at the Olympic Trials was deplorable. The combination of the lean and the shove in two separate races was absolutely childish.
