Where to live in Columbus, OH

Actually, no I don't have any envy and nothing I said could be construed as such. I used to live in Worthington and I worked for Worthington Schools. Now my kids go to Dublin Schools and I am an educator with a PhD. So I know what I'm talking about. Worthington Schools are fine. But Dublin's (and UA's) are better. I don't even get near 33/270/Avery so that doesn't bother me.The rankings I was talking about appeared very prominently in the Dispatch earlier this year. If you don't believe them, that's fine. But that does not make my take on them "insane."

Interesting, TJ. With your PhD and all, I assume you know the value-added data is coming soon - and figuring into the school ratings. Dublin and UA have high achievement scores, but that won't be good enough anymore. In fact, UA has come under some major scrutiny lately for its lack of success with its (small, mind you) special needs population. Same goes for Dublin and its minority sub groups. Worthington outperforms both districts in these areas. Wait for the new state rating system, and you'll see.

So yeah, I guess if you're already smart, disability-free, and come from a wealthy, supportive, highly educated, 2-parent family, those school systems are "top notch" (ahem). If you have any type of individual need though... tread carefully: You just may be considered tarnish on the district silver.

My suggestion is to rent close to where you work and you can take your time to visit all the other areas around Columbus and see what fits you the best.

As stated in other threads, "rankings" can have very little value. That would be like trying to pick a school based on the best distance running program. A few years ago, Hilliard was the place to be. Then Reynoldsburg had a good run. Maybe the OP should check out Lancaster. An hour a day each way shouldn't matter if your kid is going to run 1:50/4:05.

Eh. Kidder is an anomaly. Lancaster's program isn't really that strong, when compared to Reynoldsburg, et al...

i have nothing to contribute to the neighborhood discussion.

Lancaster also has two 10th graders running 1:53 and 9:45 respectively in addition to Kidder. So maybe he's not an anomal. Maybe its an up-and-coming program.

You certainly can't go wrong living in the North area of Columbus. It's been a while since I've lived in Columbus. I know it has changed a lot.

Anybody who thinks that Lancaster's recent distance success is an anomaly doesn't really know much about Ohio HS boys distance running before 2002 or so.

Wow dude. A stud from the late 70's and a stud from 2012 doesn't exactly make you a strong program. That's sort of like saying Ohio State's track team is a strong program because of Jesse Owens. Reynoldsburg, Hilliard Davison, Westerville North, and D. Coffman are much stronger distance programs these days...
