me, March 10: "He is in low-9.90 form RIGHT NOW, in MARCH."

me, March 11: "Watching that kind of late acceleration, I would say that he has an excellent shot at mid-9.8x this summer, a very good shot at making the olympic team, and a decent shot at making the final."

And there are other places.
And, I do believe that Powell has a good finish, it's just not AS good as Bolt, Gatlin, or Blake; even Lemaitre will gain on him over the last 30m, and maybe Dix. Remember, Dix is the guy who ran down Gatlin at last year's nationals (although Gatlin wasn't leaning or driving, he thought he had already won).
I don't think you can underestimate Blake's finish. When that guy winds up, he is GONE, like Gay. I still think Bolt has the highest absolute top speed, but I think that over the 100m, the speed endurance of all the big guns is equal, except for Powell. IMHO, as I have said many times before, he will NEVER get that speed endurance if he doesn't change his top-speed form. Never. Powell needs to gain in his absolute top speed, maintain near his absolute top speed for just a bit longer, between 55-75, get that little bump in the middle of the race like Bolt does, that separation, to make everybody play catch-up, because d is right, as soon as he gets passed, he takes his foot off the gas.
Also, I'm not totally convinced that Gatlin will get much faster over the course of the season, although I hope that I'm wrong. I'd like to see a breakdown of this race, compared to his 9.76/9.77, to see where he was better back then, to see where he can be expected to improve. I actually like the fact that he seemed to get up a bit early, I just didn't like the suddenness of it.
And I think his drive phase was actually really good, if not great--he was ahead of Clarke, just behind Carter, and a bit behind Powell, who is maybe the best ever.
I also wonder if Powell could hold on longer if he held 1% back at the start. He could ease off just a bit, and might still be up with the best, even though he was bested in the drive phase in Berlin by both Bolt and Gay.
Gatlin's success and progression since his return have been nothing short of phenomenal. He could have won nationals last year, he won indoor worlds, and he's among the leaders outdoors this year, close to his possibly-clean PR, in May.
2 things: how do we know that the Doha timing and wind measurement are accurate? By the looks of the other runners, it seems to have been reasonable. 9.87/9.88 for the first 2 spots is unbelievable.
And the last thing is, how do we know that Gatlin is clean? Remember Johnson's return? He maintained that he was clean, too. Bottom line: we don't know, we have no way of knowing...but the same thing applies to all the other athletes, too.
And I hold Bolt to the same standard as Gatlin, and am glad that he is competing, of course. Gatlin is in my advanced-standard group, as I believe that androgenic effects of 'roids have lasting benefit...as some other guys on this board have said, once a doper, always a doper...I would change that to "Once a doper, always doped."
I still think that Bolt and Blake are ahead of everyone. So far, this has to be the best year ever in the men's 100m at this point, with 4 guys seriously in the 9.8's, and Dix a windy 9.8x.
Holy crap, the new era is in full flower.
