You have to specify whether you're talking about undergrad or grad... Georgia Tech is no higher than 7th or 8th for undergrad but would rank in the top 3 for graduate school - some of the best graduate engineering programs in the country

did you pull your list out of a hat?
the honors programs are better at UVA and UNC and have better/more accomplished than those at wake but wake doesn't have the bottom 25% riffraff that UVA and UNC have. wake also is a small private school and the other 2 are big state schools so it's really comparing apples to oranges. overall, it's close but UVA's top end puts it ahead of the other 2.
Why is clemson so low on most people's lists?
1. Duke
2. BC
3. UNC
4. UVA
5. Clemson
6. Wake Forest
7. Va Tech
8. Georgia Tech
9. FSU
10. Maryland
11. NC State
12. I can't remember
because it's a very average school. you are insane if you think that it's a better school than wake and ga tech. us news has it at #68. maryland is 55, miami 38, ga tech 36, BC 31, UNC 29, wake 25, UVA 25 and duke 10.
you could make a case that clemson is better than MD but the other 7 are way ahead of clemson.
Lots of ACC schools on the top public list (http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/national-universities/top-public) and GaTech is #5 on best undergraduate engineering behind MIT, Stanford, Berkley, and CalTech. That ain't bad.
got to give it too duke. Second UNC/UVA tied... then wake..
i agree that you can't rank g-tech... cause its so different. It would be like comparing florida with wisconsin in track.... or too like completely different programs

Maryland is 39 on that list:
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=4560242It seems like quite a few ACC schools specialize in engineering. Georgia Tech, NC State, Clemson, Virginia Tech. Wake and UNC aren't as strong as in other disciplines, and Duke and UVA are as strong as their other subjects.
Any way you slice it, the ACC from top to bottom represents, and is as good, on average, as the Big 10, which shows well on the other thread. Both edge out the PAC 12 on average, though the upper tier PAC 12 schools can hang with any conference.

Your first 3 are good. Wake Forest #4. Honestly I would rank Georgia Tech #5, although they are rather specialized. After that there is really a blanket that can be thrown over a bunch of schools. I'd put them in this order, although I wouldn't quibble with anybody who wanted a different one:
6. Maryland
7. Virginia Tech
8. NC State
9. Boston College
10. Miami
11. Florida State
12. Clemson (they stand out at the bottom, by a lot)
A lot of rankings, but honestly are any of the schools really that good? I'm familiar with Duke, but have heard very little about any of the others other than most are just your typical state university factories which you can find all over the country. Being from the Midwest and West, I have a hard time believing any of the ACC schools really stand out. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just haven't seen any evidence of strong school rankings.
So this is what you D1 hotshots feel like when you bash D3 running threads. The special education kids from my high school goes to the schools you guys are debating over.
Duke's peers are the lower Ivy League schools, Northwestern, Rice, etc.
UNC and UVA's peers are Berkeley, UCLA, and University of Michigan.
Wake Forest I guess is like University of Southern California level.
So yes, those are all good schools. The rest are just OK.

That is the most screwed up list I have ever seen. What are you basing this on, women's volleyball rankings or some other obscure measure? Certainly not academics.
I think you guys are underselling some of the state schools. In the last 5-10 years they have really been improving.
GT is one of the top 5 engineering schools in the nation and you all are ranking it BELOW state schools??
