I got in as well. With a 2:56 estimated finish time, what will my starting position be like? How much time will the crowds slow me down compared to an "uncrowded" race like CIM?
I had a qual time of 2:4x last year and got into 1st corral blue. Except for the stupid few charity runners they stick in front on blue, it opens up right away and no crowd problems what so ever.
With a 2:56 estimated time (did you get in by lottery), I don't know where they'll stick you but I assume you'll be in one of the 1st two corrals at one of the starts and it should be fine...
Personally, I think orange start, 1st corral is probably the best spot. You are in front of the blue start, so you can see the elites scream by. They don't put the slower charity runners in front of you and you probably have a better view of Manhattan....
The courses are slightly different for the 1st 3 miles. Green has a gentler upslope, way more of a downhill for mile 2, but that means mile 3 is more uphill. Blue has more of the bridge to run up, but the downhill is not as big which means mile 3 is flatter. I believe the orange course as a little more uphill at mile 3.
When blue and green merge at mile 3+ it gets a tad bit crowded, then at mile 8 where all courses merge that stretch in Brooklyn can get a little crowded but even at 3 hour pace it doesn't prevent you from running your pace. After that, it's basically free running.
The roads in New York are fairly wide.

I put down as a predicted time of 2:59. I plan to do all my tempo/MP runs at that pace, but because it is NY I plan of running much more conservative race for the first 13.1 miles. I hope it actually does take me 1 or 2 minutes to cross the starting line. That will force me to run slower in the begining when I need to. I'd like to start out at 7:15's and work my way down to 7:05 pace by 10K. Then just hang at that pace till 16 and see how I feel for the final 10 miles. My main goal is to just run something under 3:10 and get a Boston Q in for 2014.

Never understood why they put some slow charity runners up front - because they raised a lot of money?
Did you apply? If yes and you're running Brooklyn 1/2 next month, you can get in on "fast" time.

That is only if you're 40 to 49. Under 40 is 1:23.
I qualified for the 2012 race with a 2:46 ran at Boston 2011. I put in my application but my status reads as "not accepted." The website says it may take up to 3 weeks for time qualifiers to have their status properly show that it has been "accepted." Anybody else running into this problem? Thanks.
