One last thing:
Maybe get a V02 max test. I had a friend when we were juniors (cycling) who wasn't very good as a racer. It was in a period when US cycling was trying to rebuild itself after a disastrous 50 years (mid 1970s). They were picking Junior cyclists pretty much at random and testing them to see if there was any hope, even if they s*cked. He tested out with a high-70s VO2 uptake and on the basis of that they gave him a spot on the USCF junior development team, taught him how to train, and he became a pretty good cyclist.
It's possible, but not probable, that you fit in this category. Get some physiological testing done. If it doesn't work out, get your engineering degree, enjoy running avocationally, and have a happy life. Or, go to a good dII school. Do some research. Some of them are really good engineering schools, without the D1 requirement that you also be fast.
