They are judged on the content of their character. Unfortunately the character displayed by more than a few is questionable.

First, I knew exactly what you meant when you said "Asian." It's a big continent, with lots of different peoples, but UKers would most frequently be thinking of a SOUTH Asian individual; so when you mentioned the tube in London, I knew whom you were referring to.

[Which introduces one of my rants. I am getting *really, really* tired of Americans' use of "Asian" when they are specifically and exclusively referring to people of EAST Asian background. If you don't want to use the word "Oriental" (which, after all, *means* "Eastern") in that situation, fine; use "East Asian" (or "Easian," I suppose). "Asian" by itself includes too much: Siberians and people from the Subcontinent and Kazakhs and Israelis and Turks and Persians and Uzbeks and Arabs, etc., etc.]

Second, as has been pointed out by others (e.g. in

), the infidels have scheduled the Olympics right in the middle of the holy month of Ramadan. Obviously this was intended as a deliberate provocation by the International Olympic Committee, and it is only reasonable that they expect the believers' righteous wrath.

Third, Somalia and especially Afghanistan aren't really part of the Middle East, are they?

Fourth, I grew up in an integrated (why is that now a dirty word?), working-class social setting where race/color was simply a nonconsideration. Oh, sure, we knew that if a black person marries someone from Japan, their children tend to look like X; but otherwise we just didn't know or care.

I think that situation is quite rare in the U.S., though; and, in fact, American children who are *not* brought up to be conscious of race risk being branded as "insensitive."

[In any case, my colorblindness was bludgeoned (metaphorically) out of me, when I attended a major university in the American Northeast. Race, even before sex or age, was the first thing you were supposed to notice about a person. That's pretty much stayed with me, sad to say.]
