We simply recommend regular glucose monitoring in patients taking statins.

"The authors present a meta-analysis of the effects of statin treatment on all-cause mortality in intermediate to high-risk patients without prevalent CVD. This investigation is by far the largest analysis of statin therapy in a purely primary prevention setting. Although the cohorts varied considerably with respect to the recruitment strategy, mean age and cardiovascular risk profile, the authors observed a consistent null result (for statin benefit) independent of mean baseline LDL concentration and mean LDL-C reduction in the treatment arm and without evidence of relevant heterogeneity across cohorts."

Bottom line is who will bankroll the study , drug companies do not want to loose a high revenue product unless they can totally have a 100% valid replacement.

Independent researchers make the money off of products to be approved and sold , not taken off the market.

I've been on Crestor for almost 10 years. I started taking it when I was obese before I started running. I've never had the dramatic side effects noted but I sure do have some concerns. I'm now down 43 pounds to (140) from where I was. This thread comes at an interesting time as TODAY I decided to try a trial off it and get bloodwork in one month. The difference now is I finally shed that last 10 pounds and am finally fairly lean. I'm starting niacin and red yeast rice to see if that helps. If my cholesterol is still too high I will reluctantly go back on it as the risk is too high. But this is good info and I appreciate it. I'm 53 now and my 5K pr is 18:47. Sure would be nice to drop a few minutes.....but not if it risks my health.

It's essential, although the vast majority of those on statins should not be on statins.
