I'd rather have the corrupt guys like you have in Jersey (BTW- Brown was probably TOO honest). Bottom line is corrupt or not, things got a lot worse under Arnold and it was because he worried too much about things that were irrelevant to the economy and no influence over anyone. As a governor, he should have had some political credibility. He didn't so the lawmakers ran roughshod over him. What makes me say he was so bad is that California has been terribly mismanaged. The money is there, it just is wasted. He's responsible. It was going pretty well before he got his hands on the reigns.

The corrupt guys we have in Jersey helped us get in a situation that's nearly as bad as California's, so I don't think you'd be any happier.

Our leaders decided the best way to deal with a budget shortfall is to pretend it doesn't exist (don't pay into pension funds, hope that someone else deals with it in 15 years).

I wouldn't say things were going well before Arnold. Reality was hidden by the housing bubble, and when that burst the state was more or less screwed.

Apparently I know as much about Jersey as you do about California. Arnold did us wrong. I can't see Brown digging us out. He was great for his time, but not now. We need a true fiscal conservative who doesn't concern himself with meaningless social issues - meaning a true social conservative, not what the pseudo conservatives think that means.

I'm a lot better off today than 3 1/2 years ago, and I'm in California. The reason the state is always bankrupt is that most of our federal tax dollars are spent on the asa-backward red states that aren't generating any value of their own. F that. California would be so much better off being independent.

Obama has zero to do with this, but you somehow make it about him. Now the only reason that there were not massive teacher layoffs in 2009/2010 was the Obama stimulus package. And if not for the Republicans, there would have been more. State cuts are the biggest drag on the economy right now and the feds had been providing a great deal of help to avoid such layoffs when the Democrats were in charge. So, this should read, "Republicans fire 20,000 teachers in California."
