I have read that Viktor has a genetic mutation in a blood-clotting pathway gene. This renders his blood more susceptable to clotting and could be a likely cause of his pulmonary embolism.
Although this sort of mutation is uncommon, there are people (non-athletes) who carry the same mutation as Viktor who have developed deep vein thromboses or pulmonary emboli at a young age.

Right and you would also think that if an athelete devloped those before, be it because of drugs or not, he would probably not risk taking EPO anymore. So his 2:08 NOW is most likely clean. And that would support that his prio times were also done clean.

Rothlin wekly volume 200-220km. Basic Training AM18-20km& PM10-12km. good volume, but key is high Quality.
He is kenyan method. 1Fartlek(1'×20),1Interval(10-18km),1 Progressive long run(30-38km).

Rothlin is 2007 World Bronze Medal, 2008 Olympic six& SUB-2:08, 2009 embolisms(35y old).
EPO is very life risk,,,,Low return.
his 10K time is not in line with the marathon time.
This indicates EPO use since the latter is aerobic and
EPO thus more beneficial.
Guys like Rothlin, and the dozens of Japanese sub 2.09 runners who can only run 28.20 - 28.45 for 10,000 track are more frequent than you would think.
These guys are specialist marathon runners, who do not focus on the track, although they incorporate track sessions into their marathon preparation.
As Maru said, Rothlin would have too much to lose by doping, in the twilight period of his career.
Rothlin is a diesel runner, who prepares perfectly for the marathon. He is a specialist.

Ghost you should really stop defending him (or any runner you actually care about). I have no idea if Rothlin is doping or not but every time you post that he surely couldn't be, it makes me think it is more likely that he is. Trust your instincts on this. Rothlin is 100% clean. Had this not been the case - he would have been running far quicker in his under distance races, instead of running times like 28.30 average for 10,000 track, and equivalent for marathon (62").
Rothlin is German Swiss, and it is extremely rare for those people to cheat or take shortcuts. Honesty is something ingrained in the Swiss psyche from an early age. The same thing in the Swiss workplace where being on time and fulfilling one's duties are the norm. The productivity in Switzerland is top notch.
The Kenyans who run with Rothlin in Iten know that he is clean, and they are very good judges of character. When the Moroccan who ran 7.57 steeple beat the Kenyans, they (the Kenyans) immediately knew that the Maghreb runner was on the juice, and they were proved right.
Lastly, Rothlin has been tested too frequently, including unannounced tests, and has always come through with flying colors. He is definitely clean.

I can see you argument. Lombard was a different case, and he came clean. Unfortunately, he was intimidated so much in his comeback, after serving his suspension, that he has given up athletics, in disgust. You can't blame him, as he was being treated like a criminal for an infraction that had little direct impact on anyone, aside from a few elite Irish athletes. The treatment he received was appalling. It is a depressing testament to Christian values, or the lack thereof.
The inference that there is a lot of doping in Eldoret is nonsense. No one from Eldoret (or Iten) has ever served time for a doping offence, despite periodic 'out of competition' visits to Kenyan athletes.
The only Kenyans to be suspended was Ngugi, and not because he doped, but because he did not agree with the high handed way that he was treated during the doping protocol visit by John Whetton (ex. British Euro indoor 1500 champion from 1970s).
Rothlin is also, surely, clean, after being tested more times than most of us have had hot dinners. Most Swiss are hard wired to be honest and act in an ethical way. That is part of their upbringing.
