You've lost all credibility with that statement. You might as well tell a woman all she has to do to not be abused by a man is to not get into a domestic dispute with a man. Do you really think anyone tries to get into a domestic dispute in which the other person is going to physically harm them? You're either incredibly stupid or incredibly naive. I had a gf throw things at me just because we had an argument. I've heard many similar stories. Where police are involved, the man is often the one who is arrested, even if he wasn't being physical at all.

I'm educated, very liberal, am all for equality in every way, and I find most people who call themselves feminists to be horribly annoying, hateful, ignorant, and sexist. This is why I started the thread. The majority of people who are loud about their feminism are like this anyway. I have seen videos of some "professional" feminists who seem very well grounded, intelligent, and who are actually for equality rather than misandry, though. (I have seen some pro femmies who fit the former discription as well though). I think feminism in the historical sense has done a great deal of good, but that third-wave feminism has kind of gone astray from the original movement. Most women I've talked to about this even agree self-described feminists are usually annoying crazy bitches.

Someone mentioned that feminists look down on women who choose to put their family first. This is very true. One can argue that it's not feminists, but rather just bad people, but the only women I've ever known who do this are feminists. You might as well say Islam has nothing to do with terrorism. Just like Islam motivates people to be terrorists, feminism motivates people to ostracize/bash women who choose family over a career. It seems to me that feminists hate women more than anyone else. I think a woman should have the right to choose to have a family, career, or both. Many feminists seem to feel women should not have the right to choose family. So who really is for increasing rights here?

No one is forcing women to have children. If a woman does not want to have children, that is fine. No one is forcing women to marry men who will force them to raise their children either. In my household growing up, my mom was a stay at home mom the majority of the time, but this was her choice, and it made economical sense as my dad made over three times as much as my mom did (due to his work ethic, experience, and career field, not due to being a man).

And no, the perception is that feminists hate men because they're trying to gain unequal rights to men, not level the playing field. We already have many, many programs to encourage women to do such-and-such, women-only programs, women only scholarships, internships where "females and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply" etc etc etc. Then women get the benefit of not having to register with the selective service, are usually not held to the same standards as men in the workplace (I've seen this every place I've ever worked), are expected to bought presents on Valentine's day, have less stringent laws when it comes to violence, are given less severe sentences in the courtroom, etc etc etc. What I don't understand is that many feminists are advocates of all these special programs to advance women. If women are equal, why do they need special treatment?

You missed a key point; it doesn't matter who instigated the domestic dispute. A woman could hit her husband full force in the face, he could not lay a finger on her, and if the cops judge the man to be the more physically capable/dangerous person, they have to arrest him, not her. Unless of course you mean men shouldn't get married/cohabitate, which is fine with us too.

We don't care if you buy into it or not. Feminism is like a runaway snowball gaining momentum. It's too late for you to turn back time. You've had your chance. Now we have ours.

Snow doesn't actually do that. So if I interpret your metaphor correctly, feminism is like an imaginary force that's supposed to be unstoppable, but never really does anything. Sound about right?

^^^ This is an important distinction in this thread.

I, for one, don't think anything bad about most "feminists" (using the word in a more intellectual/academic sense) that are actually educated on gender issues and genuinely advocate for equality.

On the other hand, I do think that "feminists" (using the word in a more pop culture, colloquial vernacular kinda way) generally advocate for sexist causes.

Also, back at Precious Roy. When you you think about something like holding a door open. Even if it seems stupid to grip about it to you, it is indicative of something larger--the role of chilvary in our definition of manhood/masculinity. Something like paying for a date is a big deal because later on paying for a date turns into paying for the marriage which then turns into paying for alimony or paying egregious child support, which are both anti-male in that they confine men away from the family and reduce him to slave and are anti-female in that they confine women to the home.

Feminists hate human nature and will deny it even exists. Sometimes I think they have a worse understanding of science than young-earth creationists. No joke.

I'm better off raising and supporting children on my own, since being a slave to my husband (e.g., working 24 hrs/day, cooking, cleaning, child rearing, bringing home the vast majority of household income) just breeds (female) resentment anyway.

Nope. It is clear that you're threatened by the very movement that empowered me to be the independent person I am today. It's not an imaginary force, and you feel that to your core. That's why you have such a visceral reaction to feminism and everything it represents.

Great thread and you couldn't ask for a better target market than the LRC He-Man Women Haters Club. Distance runners are especially prone to women hating probably because they spent a lot of time as undesirables.

So, let’s see, where to begin? How about why there are feminists in the first place. If we look back over time men have spent an eternity trying to control women. This zest for control probably emanated from a male’s need to ensure that his bloodline was passed to the next generation – you can’t be cuckold if you lock your women up and throw away the key. For us males this must have seemed like a quicker, more efficient way to deal with the problem then taking the time and effort to earn a women’s love. And if you think about it, back in the day, humans probably didn’t have a lot of time to spend on romance.

Anyway, skip several hundred generations and we have evolved as a society and have found that when women are included there is more for everyone. More peace, more education, more art, more literature, more love. Societies with liberated women faired exponentially better than their misogynistic counterparts.

Now, what happened while we developing societies transitioned from total control towards total equality? Beatings, rapes, homicides, persecutions, prosecutions, etc., etc. Women were chattel. The Courts saw that women needed a helping hand to truly reach equality and that it was best for society. Of course men hate the fact that women strive for equality because it’s not in their nature to allow that. It puts all the onus of adequately providing for their mate on their shoulders when they would rather just treat them like shit but take comfort in the fact that they are not breeding with other males.

So all you guys out there bitching about all the unfair advantages women have in society today take a look at Flagpoles’ criteria for being a real man and…man up.

I hold open doors for "bros" too. And I always express my appreciation when people open doors for me- be they male or female. Furthermore, I'm probably one of the most generous people you'll come across (to a fault). I'll pick up other people's tabs far more than I should. However, I abhor men who bitch and moan about "having" to do things for women. Women don't make you do these things for them- you do them voluntarily. If you don't like it, have the balls to stop.
