canova said 99% chance mutai would not run boston, he did not say anything about tonights race.
he is almost always correct on what runners are running what races, but how does he get this information on runners he does not coach like mutai?
example he was saying who would be running the rotterdam marathon in april and mentioned some of the top runners who would be in the field including runners he does not coach.
even the rotterdam marathon race website has not released these names yet canova knows.
of course he knows what runners his runners like moses mosop (rotterdam) are running, but how does he know about what races elites who he does not coach are running?
i look at iaaf.org, trackandfieldnews.com, eme news, alberto stretti blog, race websites and i cant find this information, as a fanatical hard core fan i really want to know how he finds this out, so i can do the same.
if someone has the answer, thankyou.
Probably just the result of insider information. I'm sure Canova knows all of the managers and coaches of these athletes.
Douglas
Canova never said that go read again please he said there was 99% chance G. Mutai was not running RAK half marathon not Boston.
It was : "I want to inform that at 99% Geoffrey will not run, because of a small problem in his buttock. In the next days we can have the final decision, but of course isn't the case to risk some injury."
Responding on the RAK marathon thread about the startlist
So as a fanatical hard core fan please check your informations before saying wrong stuff. Thanks
he said it on lets run the day after the boston field was released on a thread talking about boston.
results?
dennis koech ~60:40
the winner is listted by tilastopaja as having a birthdate of january 22nd 2012 so he is a young one, kenya may have another good marathoner in the making.
with steeple star ezkiel kemboi saying he wants a career of 10 years as a marathoner after the olympics 2012 steeple, kenya's marathon depth should increase by 2 people OR MORE.
@Douglas, Canova knows all managers, lives in Iten and speaks to most of the athletes. Even when he doesn't coach them. Information about Geoffrey Mutai he gets when he drops by (several times a day, after many training sessions with his athletes) in the camp of Gianni Demadonna in Iten, the same place where a lot of athletes also go for Physiotherapy.
The Physio (me) doesn't spread this news, matter of trust, but I can't stop athletes talk to Renato and he makes conclusions on this information.
Some say, if you want to know insides, talk to the Physio, that's true, but confidentiality holds me from spreading information, Renato doesn't have that so much.
Geoffrey Mutai is rumored to be a bit banged up after 3 races early in the year. Mr. Canova doesn't coach him but he meets with Geoffrey sometimes perhaps as "an advisor".
G Mutai is most definitely trying to run Boston because if he does not, he's not going to the Olympics and he's gonna lose his spot in the WMM $500,000 chase which he could win.
The question should be: will G Mutai be running tomorrow at Kenyan XC Champs, where he is the defending champ? If he doesn't run there, then he is taking it easy after a challenging Coamo HM win that took him an absurd 63+ minutes even though he blasted James Kwambai by 5 seconds/mile.
-------
The other question is: if Mary Keitany gets the pacing right, how fast can she run in the marathon in London vs Lucy Kabuu? Then again, she doesn't have to go far to talk it over with her pacer... in RAK it was her husband Charles Koech.
Douglas once again your wrong because i started the thread and it was not about Boston. anyway i am sure we will have some news from renato soon
After some more thought, I must say I am confused by Geoffrey's pre-race photos at RAK... Why did he not run? Was he sick or too banged up? Will he be running at Kenyan XC? I can't imagine the RAK people would be too happy with that.
----------------------------------
Also, we have Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich - who I assume was 3rd at RAK in 2012 and who is different from
Wilson Kipsang (full name Wilson Kiprotich Kipsang) who ran 2:03:42 last year in Frankfurt and who is running London.
According to Tilastopaja
Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich: has no marathon on record but a 59:27 Half marathon PB
Wilson Kiprotich Kipsang: 2:03:42 in Frankfurt 2011
------------------------
I've been here in Kenya for two weeks and I'm still confused. If I want to keep up with even the seemingly simplest things going on in Kenyan running I'm going to have to try harder and keep Renato's phone busy!
Starting this thread I had read Canovas comments about Mutai not running. But then I saw the pre-race PR release and I thought "Oh wow, surprise". The organizers really need to up their game. Money goes a long way but you also got to show some interest.

Nothing would surprise me with those Kenyan names but I am pretty damn sure that Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich and Wilson Kiprotich Kipsang is one and the same person.
Yes Wilson Kipsang who ran 2:03:42 in Frankfurt and Wilson Kipsang who finished third at RAK HM 2012 are the SAME person.
Can't you recognize him with his way of running and face ?
Lucy Kabuu sucks losing to Aselefech. If Lucy can't beat aselefefech then she can't beat Mary.
