When does swelling go down after knee arthroscopy? I'm now almost 24hrs post-op.

Man that sounds horrible. Did u see other doctors to see if they can help it?

My understanding is mines 6-8weeks (cyst removal). So far im at 11days post-op and up to 30min on a stationary (upright) bike with the seat high but I keep resistance very low still. It's only enough to get my heart rate up to 115bpm at most, but I care most about getting healthy and if I'm somewhat out of shape coming back so what I just want to run normally again.

Update: ran about 43miles last week. much much better, but feels a bit stiff and not like the other knee yet. im told it can take like a year for this to happen though.

I had an arthroscopic knee surgery in the last week of January 2012 (right knee). First day at home started well until my knee swell with terribly increasing pain. My surgeon made a house call and and drained my knee. Later in the evening, my knee swell again with aggravating pain and my surgeon made another house call to drain the knee of fluids. He then proposed to applied a very tight "old fashion" compression ace bandage over the swollen knee. Within 48 hours my leg was red and swollen above and below the operated knee. Trip to the ER where they found a blood clot on my right calf. Sent back home on coumadin and lovelox. The next day, my knee started to swell again! Third hoouse call from my surgeon who drained my knee again....of blood. The surgeon applied a small band-aid and left when I was still bleeding...A lot! Almost ready to faint, I call 911 and was taken to the hospital where I stayed ten days and a second surgery to remove the blood from my knee (hemarthrosis). I was on lovelox .30mg for two months. I could not regain full mobility and was offered a manipulation under full anesthesia. Overnight stay and send back home in a cab...alone and still out of it from being under the influence of morphine! I had tried a CPM Machine and Dynasplint without success. Now in my four months I am still not able to walk normally and today, May 12th, my PT measured my range of motion: 60 degrees!! Still walking with the help of one crutch. Anyone on this site who could rely and share her/his experiences with me? French Guy in SF.

I found this thread because I just had knee surgery (OATS procedure). I'm six days out -- knee is still swollen but I've been using the CPM machine to work up to 60 degrees. I didn't require any pain medicine after the knee surgery (no neuroblock, no medicine) because it felt fine. Interestingly, it feels worse now, and when I stand up, it feels like a bunch of "goop" is draining into my knee.

Do you guys get achey and stiff after knee surgery? My arms and back and everywhere feels kind of odd (kind of like when you have the flu, except I don't have the flu).

The good news is that if this surgery works, I'll be back running after a year and a half away from it!

Mine took about two weeks to get loose; the doc said go on a lifecycle with no resistance on; it was about three days before I could get the pedals through 360 degrees. After that things improved pretty quickly, and at this point I wish my other knee was as good as the fixed one. Be patient.

I was wondering that myself. I just had surgery March 3 2016, almost 5 weeks still having a very hard time walking and swelling is awful. I had a fat pallet removed and arithiris removed. I'm 45. I'm very frustrated with the process. I asked for physical therapy and they said they normal don't do that.... I know they didn't open me up, but I'm tired of taking meds off and on. I'm also on Coumidin and can't take NSAIDs. Very frustrating. I'm just praying soon I can be able to get back to walking my dogs. In a lot of pain in Oregon....

Would live an update on this post. I underwent meniscus surgery on March 14, 2016 and tonight my knee looks like a grapefruit! So disappointed...! I've already had my follow up and discharged. I can't bend it for ROM exercises because it's so swollen. Wondering if yours eventually resolved or is this certainly NOT how it's supposed to go?? :(

Curious to know how you are doing now after 3 months? Kind of in a similar situation only a week after my surgery!

I'm 30 days out of double meniscus tear surgery, still swelling, still icing, still elevating grrr, but have returned to gym limited machines. Have read about anti-inflammation diet have ordered proteolytic enzymes anyone know about anti/inflammatory diet?
