Bairu ahead of Rupp in Cardinal 10K

Are you saying these guys are gonna bag Stanford to help Rupp do his time trial at Hayward? Not sure if that is what you are implying, but that is not going to happen.

Although Bairu's PR is only 27:50 his race at World Cross is an indication that he is ready to make a huge jump on the track.

I'll admit to some bias here. Living in Portland I'm wanting Rupp to announce he will run in Eugene so I can see it. And I'm a Rupp fan. If he is truly looking for a time around the American record I'm sure Salazar along with the weight of Nike would have capable pace makers arranged. Its funny how Rupp haters are rationalizing that he is "ducking" competition. All Rupp has cared about for years now is competing and trying to place well in races even if it meant not the fastest time. Yet countless posts on this board have criticized Rupp for not having a very good Personal best. Now he wants to do a 10K for time and suddenly Rupp haters have a problem with it. Any anyway, since when is the Payton Jordan a "race"? Runners can make it what they want it to be. Rupp may very well still run at Standford, and if he does it will still effectively be a time trial for him. Will you have problem with Rupp then?

The problem with calling Eugene a "glorified time trial" is that if he can indeed go faster than the American record, there is only one guy (Bairu)who has even a small possibility of being with him, but more likely he would drop everyone pretty early and the rest of the race would be a glorified time trial there too.

None of those guys have run at the level of Rupp on the track, and would likely not make it any further at Rupp's pace than the rabbits. Whether he runs at Stanford or Oregon, its a rabbitted time trial, and you can be sure at Hayward field at least the fans in Eugene will come out and cheer their hearts out for Rupp.

Chelanga and Fam have run similar times too. Brent Vaughn and Solinksy are certainly capable as well.

Are you serious? Hell, Chelanga has a faster 10k PR than Rupp.

The last race I saw Chelanga run was NCAA indoor, and he did NOT look like he was in the kind of shape to run like he did last spring or fall

the only way it makes sense for Rupp to duck Stanford is if he is rabbiting Ritz to the AR.

Lots of folks in the field might match his stale 10k PR, but this race is going out in under 13:40. I can see Chelanga, Fam, and maybe Mo & Cragg going with him for awhile, but they won't be anywhere near 27:1x shape, certainly not this early.

So instead he stays in Eugene and runs against no one, in a glorified time trial? At least at Stanford he'd have runners up there with him, challenging him to run faster, instead of following one of a half dozen current Oregon Ducks. It's funny when Al Sal speaks out that the sport needs to be better, needs to create better situations for racing, same thing for Vin, then when there is the most stacked 10k we'll see outside of the US Champs, Rupp decides to run at UO, where no one will care what he does outside of the Hayward Field faithful. I hope Rupp races well this weekend, but I hope the Stanford race gets all the attention.

If you're trying to build the sport, why would your top athletes not go to Stanford and race well... They have been building that event for years/decades, and when/if top Americans and their Coaches decide to do their own thing, it's a bad decision... I almost suspect there is some sort of politics or financial issues in the background... Which is sad, for all of us who care about distance running.

I wish idiot Ritz would have just entered an f'ing race after he broke the 5k record and easily crushed the 10k record. Now we have to talk about Rupp breaking it, which is just sad. I'm sure Ritz thought he could just take his sweet time and do it for a big payday like Usain, but he ain't Usain and it shows.

Perhaps someone need to tell you Americans that the REAL track season starts in June. Who gives a shit about how fast anyone is running right now?
