We are probably capable of running long distances better than any other species if the matter is just getting from point A to point B. But running a 19, 18, 17, 16, 15 minute 5k? That is something not everyone can do or will ever be able to do.

This is a framework that is relevant only for males in the United States. Very rough estimates on how many people in the US occupy each range. Numbers in parentheses do not include lower levels ie. 50ish at 13:20-14:00 do not include the 10-15 under 13:20.
12:56-13:20: Truly elite, potential to go to the Olympics (10-15?)
13:20-14:00: Still considered "elite" in the US. D1 Track/CC national qualifier, can make some money on the roads, a potential future in the marathon. (50-60?)
14:00-14:40: A quality D1 runner or excellent D2/D3 runner. (100?)
14:40-15:20: An average D1 runner or good D3 runner. Stellar high school athlete. (600?)
15:20-16:00: A mediocre D1 runner, decent D3 runner, State level high school runner. Very rare weekend warrior. (3000?)
16:00-16:40: D1 is out of the question, mediocre D3 runner, Solid Varsity level high school runner. Still pretty rare for the weekend warrior (15k?)
16:40-17:30: Poor D3 runner, Normal Varsity HS level male. More weekend warriors, would win a lot of 5k's with no prize money. (50k?)

This is where I don't like these rankings. A 13:21 guy and a 14:00 guy cannot be lumped together. The 14:00 guy can't even make USAs and the 13:21 guy will make the final and in a good race can be top 10 for sure. 14:00 doesn't even make NCAAs.

This is pretty reasonable for the most part. I'm curious about how accurate the 14:40-15:20 group is. I have a feeling that if you were to exclude the collegiates, the number is much smaller than that, but I don't know how large the collegiate group is that runs in that range. 600 overall may be accurate. Your overall guesses leave you well short of approximately 150 million males though. I think the last 3 groups are all much larger. I'd guess 20-23: 3 million, 23-30: 20 million, 30-40: 50 million, 40+: 80 million.

If you look at California's state meet there are about 13 runners sub 15. In the west that isn't a rarity but in the east the runners are generally slower for some reason. I know there is 2 HS runners in Kentucky that go sub 15 right now. so many more than 2 or 3.
Nike isn't the end all be all of professionalism in running.

In the name of accuracy, the only thing i would change is to say HS varsity extends to 17:30 or even 18:00. I'd say even a few of the most elite nike team national teams have 17:30 guys as their number 7 guy. i haven't looked at the stats, but on avg in the US, i think most teams would have 17:30 guys on varsity. Everything else looks right on.

Wrong. You're definately in the 20+ range. And portraying that women, fat people, and old people are over 20, is stupid. There are plenty of women who can run faster than you. For example me, I am a woman. 24 years old. I can run a 18 minute 5k. You are an idiot. 99% of all women can kick your big fat butt.

19-20: not worth talking about. Double chinned back of the pack high school sophomores whose mom made them to go out for XC in hopes of delaying the inevitable onset of diabetes. 18-19: not worth talking about: Pack fodder at a 2A high school meet. Athletically retarded, but need an activity, obviously couldn’t make the team at sports where they cut people. Spectators clap and yell 'good job' like you’re in the gd special Olympics or something. Parents try to act unashamed but quietly start rethinking that pro-life stance.
