Not good here on the Arctic front. After 2+ weeks off from any activity, I tried skiing twice last week total about 6K (3K/day) and my knee take it at all. Been sore and stiff since then. Going into the doctor tomorrow for evaluation.
I had some success with sprinting in elementary school but did not run competitively in high school or middle school. I went out for track my senior year, but quit after the first practice thinking I had no talent and would not be able to contribute to the team.
I felt guilty about that and a few weeks later, decided to take up "jogging" as a way to contract out of gym class. Started running 3 miles, 3X a week, and by summer I was running in all comers meets (sprints). Moved from 100 y and HH, to 220, to 440 y.
At college the coach tried to get me out for CC, and I thought running 10 miles a day was nuts and declined. By spring I was on the track team and moved up from 440 and 600y indoors to the 880 and mile outdoors. Within a year I was running the 3 mile/5000--through college I tried to be a miler, and didn't realize that my best distances were 10K and up.
