Dave Wottle is usually the answer to questions like this
Graham Hood
Chris Chataway, British, in the 1950s set the WR in the 5,000m, 3 mile (when that was a big deal)and 4x1mile relay, paced Bannister to the first sub-4 mile, won gold in the 3 mile at the Commonwealth Games (again, when that was a big deal), and silver in 5,000m at European Championships, two time Olympian in 5000
"Sully" from Canada
Did Dave Wottle wear a hat because he was ashamed of being a Ginger? Never knew the guy had red hair, thought it was brown.
John Treacy won 2 world cross country championships and a silver medal in the Olympic marathon.
None of the folks mentioned in this thread are redheads. What are you guys..colorblind?
Interesting point, though. PhD thesis material.
History has clearly shown that redheads are simply genetically inferior when it comes to distance running. The most talented of them with the most intense training can hardly keep up with a blonde, or brunette haired individual of middling ability on a less strenuous training plan. The inability of the posters on this thread to name a single elite level red haired runner proves this point.

Those two are Canadians not red heads. There is a difference. It's a common mistake to make though.
As a redhead, I tend to agree. I think it has to do with muscle and bone density. I have a slight build but when I played rugby in college I was able to knock down people quite a bit larger than I was. When our team did long runs, however, I was always near the back. I noticed the same pattern with other redheads I played against. I don't have any statistical evidence to back this up, but it's what I observed. I've noticed there are also a large percentage of good redheaded boxers.
Jessica Hull, she just won the NCAA 1500m.

Conor McGregor is another example of a ginger like this. 90% of the time he knocks his opponents out in the first 2 rounds. However his cardio is horrendous and if it goes past the 3rd round he's in big trouble
This is highlighted by his first fight against Nate Diaz where he threw himself to the ground to be submitted due to exhaustion in the 2ND ROUND.
He faired a bit better in his boxing match against Money Mayweather but the ref stopped it in the 10th because McGregor was too exhausted to defend himself.
Carrot Top. Have actually seen him running in Orlando. Not only is he a redhead, he’s also a roid head.
Tyler Day of NAU. He may the be the future of "American born" long distance running.
(I know this is a resurrected thread but I thought I would mention him.)
