Good lord brother. You're a stone's throw from 300. Not ripping on you...just trying to provide some kick in the ass encouragement, but damn, that weight of yours is really unacceptable. I've been at an unacceptable weight before (a couple of times), but, man, you've got to do something to get rid of that weight.
Other than nutrition, it doesn't matter what you eat...you just need to eat fewer calories than you burn, so go do that.
Good luck brother!

I too am a fatty. 5'11" been a month since on the scale but probably very close to 230.
When is the next weigh in? Grand finale?
well it actually took me a year + 3 months to pack on this weight. hard to believe i put that much on in that time frame, particularly because i was fat to begin with.
i am 32 (almost 33) and plan to break 18 in the 5k and run a sub 3 hr marathon before i am 35. my one last shot at glory hahaha....
plan on just walking until i am under 200 to spare myself any injury.
hopefully this attempt will go better than my last.

thanks for the encouragement flagpole. i honestly thought about trying to reach 300 before losing weight just to hit that "milestone."
the goal is 175-180, i suppose it will take a year or better.

I am right there with you. But my big day is in February. After that it is back to all you can eat. Keep us updated and starting in March if you need someone to clean off your plate let me know. I may be old but I can eat with the best of them.

what is the big day? goal race or just a weigh in?
I was 6'1" and 130-35 in college. Was 175 at 27, and 198 at 30. Sure makes a difference with running speed, that's for sure. I'm 41 and back down to 175, but would have a real hard time imagine getting much under 170. We'll see, for now, I'm happy to have reached a goal weight. Mainly focusing on trying to get faster again, as I've been struggling to run under 6:10 pace for 5K.
I went from 220 approx Dec 00' to 170 approx Oct 01', so hoping to do it again. Just ran and ate very well on weekdays. Still gotta have fun on weekends. So confident I can do it again. Check in again around Xmas to see how it's going.

Goal race.
http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=3791370Good for you to try and loose the weight while you're young. So much harder when you are older. And for me I am ready to ride of into the fat sunset. Just want to give it one more try before I do. Who knows I might just join you and keep up the program. It is awesome to see you go for it though. Keep us updated.

I was 286 in spring of 2008 at age 34. Started eating better and cycling, and when I got to about 210 pounds I started running (Oct 2008). By Spring 2009 I was 180 and ran 136 for the half. Was never a runner prior to Oct 2008. Kept running and ran 127 a month ago with 5k and 10k times at a very similar level according to McMillan (under 19 and low 39).
Only issue is that I stopped losing weight. At 5'11 I think I could get to 150 if I would cut calories, but have not made that commitment yet. I weighed about 185 for all my "PRs" this fall.
The only thing stopping you is you.

OP, thanks for starting and bumping the thread. It's giving me some motivation at just the right time.
I too have had my ups and downs and ups. Am currently on an "up," unfortunately: have been in the 160s for five months, but was 160 maybe 3-4 months ago, and yesterday was back at 169.
It's still an improvement on my "peak" weight in summer of 2001: about 226 (this for a guy who weighed 148 in college), but I'm really scared of blimping up again. I've done that before: had gotten down to 165 in 2005, but was back around 210 at the end of 2008.
Anyway: currently 6-2+, BP about 120/70, waking pulse usually in the up 60s (~20 beats higher than my running days--can't run anymore). Lift about once a week, do a few abs one or two other days. Otherwise the most vigorous exercise I get is pushing 60.
Please feel free to share tips, if you find anything that seems to work for you. I know that it's a lot more complicated than "burn more calories than you eat"...
Good luck to you, OP--and to everyone else who's striving.
I'm 6'2 and 165 lbs on average (I can get under 160 after a long run, but I'll probably hit 170 after thanksgiving dinner). I'm only about 7-8% body fat, but im still known among my runner friends as "the big one"
5'11", 155lbs.
Family: "You're too skinny"
Runners: "Damn you're fat"
Non-runners think I'm nuts when I tell them I need to get down to low 140s
Local hot shot is 5'10", 138lbs.
Sonofabitch I swear this time its for real. Fell off the wagon last year, hit a peak of 283 lb this year.
Started again this past October. Have lost about 40 lbs. Currently at about 244 lbs. I joined a gym and have been primarily lifting weights and jogging on the treadmill.
I plan to run a 5k in March, with a goal of breaking 27 min.
Update this thread every Monday to let us know how it's going. We will hold you accountable. If you fail you will feel the wrath of LR.
Good Luck man and hope to see you around the 2-0-0 soon!
Down 1 lb to 243 this week. Would be disappointed in a normal week, but considering I survived 4 Christmas parties with a 1 lb loss, I'm pleased.
I "ran" 5 miles yesterday outside. My plan was to ease into running a little slower than I have, but I just can't resist. I generally run/jog 3 miles x 3 times per week on the treadmill at about a 30 min 5k pace. But with the sun out and unseasonably warm temperatures, it was a brilliant day to run outside.
So far I have been injury free, however, I feel a slight twinge in my shoulder and my knee. I plan to focus more on body weight exercises in the coming weeks in an effort to get rid of the twinge in my shoulder. I will try to resist the urge to keep pushing the pace and distance with my running. Funny, I never would have guessed I would consider 3 miles at 10 min/mile "pushing the pace." But at 240 lb, it feels like I am flying.
Hope to be in the 230's by next week!

Oh sorry. Wrong thread.
