Chlamydia can be easily treated and cured with antibiotics. A single dose of azithromycin or a week of doxycycline (twice daily) are the most commonly used treatments. HIV-positive persons with chlamydia should receive the same treatment as those who are HIV negative.

My cartilage grew back after about 10 years.
I'm pretty sure it was gone, because I could feel my kneecap scraping and it would often lock up if I bent my knee. If I sat still too long, I would be unable to straighten my leg.
After a few years it started getting better and stopped hurting at all.
The downside is I was not running at all during that time.
Hi Tatiana. I´m 31 year old. I was sport man from high school to college (football and volley ball). At 30 i wanted to run again and suddenly i had recurrency chondromalacy. Please try to give more info about the treatment yo followed and some advices for all of us figthing this condition.

I was just recently diagnosed with Chondromalacia after being told I have patellar tracking problems. I had to have a scope done on my right knee cuz I was having lots of pain and I had cartilage damage and it was shaved and debrided. I’m now having some troubles with my left, had a cortisone shot and I’m worried same is happening as my right. I’m currently taking turmeric and a collagen supplement with glucosamine. My ortho just said you have osteoarthritis and wasn’t very positive, and sometimes when my pt has me biking it irritates it and I get some swelling. Any hope that this can go away?
This is an old thread, but to answer Nikiib, it can be treated.
First, the ligaments are stretched and/or torn. You have to lessen the pressure on them when you run. The problem is that your kneecap isn't tracking properly.
You are probably pronating. Let me explain. Shortly after your heel hits, the forefoot slams down. The impact force of the forefoot striking is even harder than the heel and it happens very fast. The result is the arch collapses. In turn, the ankle rocks inward and the knee torques inward. This twisting of the knee is a major cause of chondromalacia. If you resolve the pronation, the knee will track more or less properly.
The solution is to eliminate pronation AND lessen the speed of your forefoot impact.
Motion control and stability shoes are not the answer. You need orthotics to correct your particular level of pronation. You can make your own. I do and I've described the process here on LetsRun.
You also need to convert from heel to forefoot strike. Surprisingly, landing on the forefoot slows the impact speed and thus lessens the collapse of the arch. Again, I've done this. Again, it's too long to explain here.
I could not run more than two miles without pain. Then, around 1992, I discovered ChoPat knee straps to help my kneecap track properly. They worked and I ran in them for nearly ten years. Then, to get faster in the mid-distances, I converted to forefoot strike. When I did, the knee problems went away. I describe all this in my book.
Thanks for bumping this. I hope some people can comment on their experiences. Did you get a grade with your diagnosis? About 3 years ago I was told I have grade 4 chondromalacia which is the worst. On previous posts and yours I haven't seen any comments on the grade they were diagnosed. Any way I had to stop running for about a year and half. Went to the gym and did a lot of drills, started leg exercises and did the Arc trainer everyday. For some reason that didn't bother my knee but the Elliptical did. Started running last year about 7 miles a week and this year 10 to 12 miles. No problems on the bike.Ever once in a while I do a long run of 5 miles. I did have the SynVisc shots 3 years ago which helped. I am eligible to get the shots every 6 months but never went back. Also I am now 59 years old.
Forgot to add Grade 4 chondromalacia of Patella.
Orthotics worked for me.
