Am I the only one who is actually sad? He did a lot for the conservation of animals and I for enjoyed his documented adventures. From one reptile owner to another, my condolences to the Irwins.

Somehow, your choice of words leaves a lot to be desired. "Ironic," yes. "Hilarious," no.

I wouldn't call it hilarious, but the irony is unmistakable. Australia is known for being replete with four of the five deadliest snakes in the world, great white sharks, crocodiles, and killer funnel web spiders, and this guy is taken out by a ray.

First off learn to spell so you don't look like such an idiot! Second, get your facts straight so again you don't look like such a jackass. Steve was a passionate conservationalist who did a ton of great things during his short life time. Taking cheap shots at him, somebody who actually made a difference in the world, after he was tragically killed, serves absolutely no purpose except to illustrate your total ignorance of his work.

It's lifetime, not life time

yes he was a colorful character and all condolences to his family.

however saving poisonous snakes, crocs, and killer spiders is not my idea of conservation of animals.

i'd just as soon all these things were done away with and as quickly as possible.

I hope I'm just missing out on your sarcasm, but if not, you don't really understand the word conservation. It doesn't just apply to small, fuzzy animals.

I was never a fan of his or the show (not that I had an aversion, I just never watched) but I think he took a young generation of kids who might otherwise pestered or hurt animals and showed them that the world belongs to more than just us.

Actually, if he stuck with the baddest dudes (but he knew them), he'd probably be alive. What he did was akin to Bekele gunning for Wariner. Steve got away from what he was used to and probably didn't understand the risks as well as he might have.

From what I've read, getting stung by a Ray is bad news, no matter how it happens.

The ray was buried in the sand and he didn't see it. That is why he got too close and accidentally boxed it in.

Not quite. The 2 meter long ray was swimming in shallow water and Steve was swimming above it. The ray got spooked and Steve was way too close... I've spent many vacations snorkeling and following rays, but always gave them space... Lots of space. You don't need to be within 3 feet of them to get a good view... especially when the ray is over 6 feet in length. Read the article below.

The dude loved nature, animals, and his family. Shoot even you jerks watched his show enough to learn something, so have a little respect, and say a prayer for his wife and kids.

Watched the Larry King re-run of his interview from 2 years ago with a friend who has been to his zoo in Australia. Steve did a lot to bring awareness to endangered animals of all types. HE was very in your face so at a quick glance he would get on some nerves but unquestionable he had an overall positive influence on animal conservation.
