So, having never actually seen racewalking but seen what the times were like and i thought the paces they are "walking" were pretty impressive and imagined it would be pretty hard. I also thought that the rules were that a foot must always maintain contact with the ground.
Now they are showing the 20k racewalk on TNT. Wow, what a joke. They are obviously leaving the ground completely. Not just some of them, but pretty much all of them, pretty much all the time. And they have judges to issue warnings, which is a complete joke because if they were really enforcing things there would be no one left after the first few kilometers.
Like i said, at first i thought that walking 20km in under 1:20 seemed really fast, but now i wonder what the times would be like if they really had to maintain foot contact.
