In a war with Mark Carroll |

In a classic duel with Mark Caroll over the last 800 meters Webb loses to Carroll by about one second. Webb jumped the pace setter (was supposed to be running a 4:15 pace but went to the half in 2:03) Webb took over at about 1000 meters and gapped the field. Carroll slowly reeled Webb in but Webb surged once again to open up at least 10 yards with a 400 to go. Carroll REALLY sucked it up and ran down Webb with about 200 to go and held on valiantly for the narrow win. Amazing race to watch ladys and gentleman. |

Good time for early in the season...but Webb has to be bummed to get outkicked. |
| Should be |

Especially to a 33 year old who I believe is traing for the Boston Marathon...... Then again Mark is one tough SOB. He should be happy with 7:48 |

True..but a 33 year old with 730 and 1303 pr's outdoors...he may have aged but he doesn't need his speed of old to beat Webb. |

All the HIGH ALTITUDE TRAINING Carroll has been doing in Lincoln, Nebraska has finally paid off. |

Regarding Webb, that's good news. A 7:48 in his 1st race, anxious to push the pace, but not sharp at the end....or maybe the 2:03 bit him at the end. He seems to be doing fine at this stage. Hopefully 2 XC races (USATF and presumably Worlds) will be enough to get him that XC strength that helped him so much last year. |

2:03 isn't that fast. 7:48 is close to 62s, or 2:04 for 800. |

Alan Webb does not deserve the credit or attention that he garners...Since Webb left Michigan the only thing he has done is consitantly find ways to lose races that he should win and choke on large stages. It is said that inorder to be the best you must beat the best but Webb shows neither the desire nor capability to do this. He would not run the Boston Indoor games this weekend instead opting to enter races he thought he could win at BU instead. Well as we all know Mark Carroll thought otherwise. Maybe Webb will have better luck against a bunch of College guys with PR's around 4 mins which are not comparable to Webb's PR. Webbs showings prove that he is overrated. Webb needs to step up and race the big boys...Hopefully in the near future he will decide he needs experience in championship caliber races and will run meets such as Boston Indoor games without fear of losing and will gain the experience against runners of Bekele and Ritz's caliber to become the great American Middle Distance Runner that many claim he already is. |

That's the best that you could come up with? |

Step up and race the big boys? What do you call last year? He went to Europe and won. He won national xc and the olympic trials. This race is simply to get him ready for world xc trials. You are simply an ignorant fool who is a year late with his complaints. If you know better come out with your real name/accomplishments and give us some reason to care about what you have to say. webb is doing just fine. He is using the indoor races as a test of fitness. The big races will come in June/July/August. 7.47 is a VERY NICE start. |

I don't have any accomplisments on the level of Webb. But neither do any of you...Simply stated Webb thought he was too good for meets such as the one he ran this weekend and his race choices are always on the safe side when other guys will go out on a limb and run meets like the Boston Indoor games looking to improve. Webb brought all of this on himself by essentially saying he was "too cool for school" and would run better if he raced less often. Had he stayed in school and racked up the accolades no one would critisize him, and he could have developed into a great runner without all the pressure. I think the pressure has gotten to him and he is using these smaller meets like BU Invite to try and get his confidence up...He should already be confident, he has made bad decisions thus far in his career and I think he realizes that and is now trying to race more, more like he is on a COLLEGIATE racing plan. |

Uh, Dr. Salsa, Webb has a world leader mile last year and went to the Olympics with the champions--how many other American competitors were remotely in his class at this distance, and who else has run a 3:53 mile in high school. Frankly sir, I think you are a troll, and not a very good one at that!

The IAAF top performance (3000m) list before tonight: 7:51.61 Pavel Shapovalov RUS 7:52.88 Vyacheslav Shabunin RUS 7:55.30 Pavel Naumov RUS 7:57.51 Martin Pröll AUT 7:58.07 Nathan Brannen CAN So Webb runs "only" 7:48. Gee, I wish I could learn to be a "failure" like that. Great performance for both this early in the season. |
