It's a pro women's 2 mile. Their high school/junior stuff is just mile, 4x4, and 4x8.

She'd be much better off as a high school student/athlete in the 4x8 relay...Bronxville has a great girls team...

She'll run against pros, quite possibly Ethiopians who usually sow up in Boston. For her it might be a race within a race, like Cheserek did a couple of times last year.

Why? What's the hurry to get this girl off and married. Married to a pro career at age 16???? What's the rush?

That would mean one girl knocked off a fine team to make way for MC. No parent of a girl on that 4x8 team would allow it. The rest of the team would not allow it.

Leave Mary Cain to be Mary Cain, and not your version of what she should be. Ms. Cain does not fit into your neat little cubbyhole. Get over it.

It seemed to work well for Rupp.

Mary Cain would have every right to run with her teammates if she so chooses (and of course adheres to team rules.) Your desire to see her run against open/adult runners is selfish and perhaps not the best thing for her long term development.
Perhaps you are confusing track and field with gymnastics or figure skating?

As a fan of the sport I am less interested in her racing schedule and training schedule being fair for other high schoolers and more interested in her development as a runner.

Don't we want to see more Americans compete at the international level?

Well guess what? This is what it takes.

It takes an above average commitment from a young age if you are going to compete on the world's stage.

I'm not saying this process is for everyone. I understand the need for being a part of your high school team and growing socially in that setting. I believe that 99.9% of runners would benefit in the high school and college systems, but for the Mary Cain's of the world, I feel it is time for her to go pro now!

Why not? Strike while the iron is hot. She may be injured and done in 3 or years.

The great power and beauty of track and field is that it aspires to be a meritocracy. If Ms. Cain is good enough to compete in Boston, or Seattle, and Ms. Cain wants to be there, and she is invited to be there, this is none of your business.

Ah, no, nice try but you're wrong... other sports like football do not let players go to the NFL draft until after their sophomore year of college.. and you ain't ever gonna see a 16 year old boy quarterbacking the Alabama Crimson Tide...standards put in for the good of the kid/athlete. Even if Mary could compete on the world stage right now, what is the hurry??? Let her come up through the ranks for her own good: 4 yrs high school competition, 2 yrs of college competition and then the open/pro scene.....Mary will get a false sense of accomplishment, along with the cheers of thousands, and the adulation of a media that doesn't know the sport when she runs in Boston. Meanwhile other 16 year old runners from around the world will correctly told that in the not so distant future (2016) or (2020) that in due time they could be an Olympic champion. Mary will be crowned too soon, at age 16, in Boston.

Nice, I say she gets towed along to a 9:40, then stays after the meet to do a workout on the track. This girl is going to be sick good in 4-5 years

The best 16 year old quarterback in the country isn't good enough to go pro. The best 16 year old runner in the country, at this point, might be good enough to go pro.

Or maybe runs a disappointing 9:57, flings her spikes and has an Alan Webb-esque temper tantrum, and then takes out her anger in a post-race workout.

No, because Webb had a history of doing the same thing that he did.

Yea, it did work for Rupp, he is a guy. Lets see how it works for a 16 yr. old girl, Alberto certainly effed up Lambie, hope it goes better for Cain.
