I picked these off the interwebs. They include several NBC announcer comments that we strange; better left unsaid.

Share any others you can recall.

* Referring to San Marino as "sort of an island"

* Going to commercial in the middle of a segment

* Stated speculation that Greece will never host the Olympics again

* Referring to Borat as Kazakhstan marched

* Making the Djibouti joke during a major world cultural event

* Spoiling the industrial-era and National Health Service segments right as they were beginning

* Making a big deal over the lack of a minute of silence for the victims of Munich

* Repeated mangling of countries' names

* Making reference to the Falklands War as Argentina marched

If you can get CTV from Canada they are more impartial and respectful.

They also claimed that Cameroon is the next funniest name after Djibouti. Why? NBC trash, one of them sang in a hoarse and strange voice which hindered viewer attempts to hear and enjoy the opening ceremony.

Also, Costas thinks "Bongo" is the funniest thing anyone can say.
The commercials certainly were oddly placed, perhaps the oddest being right after Steven Redgrave had gotten the torch and began his run. If anything ever betrayed the fact that this thing wasn't "live," that was it.
I also don't expect them to know everyone, but when Nick Willis showed up on screen as the New Zealand flagbearer, it wouldn't have been too much to ID him as the returning 1500-meter silver medalist.

The Borat story was funny as hell though, as was the Gabon story. And Greece will never host the Olympics again, this much is true.

I didn't need to be reminded by the problems of each individual country either. But of course America's problems weren't mentioned when it was our turn.

When the comment was made that the full name of Luxembourg was the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg the reply was why don't they march in the g spot?

Problems? What problems? Haven't you heard? Obama said everything is OK now. The recession has ended and the economy is fine now.

I freaked out when I heard Costas pronounce Cape Verde as "cape verd," thinking that can't possibly be how it's supposed to be pronounced. But lo and behold, Costas was right.

I thought this was odd, as well. They went on about how the small moment of silence was not enough... that it should be done while "millions were watching.." or something to that effect.

Why didn't NBC simply then honor the Munich victims with their own moment of silence? Instead of taking advantage of the fact that millions were watching on NBC, they just cut to commercial.

Well, he wasn't correct as far as I know pronouncing Cote D'Ivoire as "Cote D'VORE" and Lauer pronouncing Hungary as "Hungry"

Costas used the French pronunciation of what was, until 1960,a French colony.
