Asbel Kiprop and Hamza Driouch may battle in the next few years to be the new world record holder. We may see a sub 3:26 before 2016.

Driouch is in his twenties and will probably fail a test before he breaks 3:30.

Kiprop becomes 5th fastest performer all time, and only the 7th man to to under 3:29.

Kiprop is not 23. He's obviously mid 20's but not that young. I think he was at least 20-21 in Beijing. He may be as old as 26-27. You just never know with Kenyans.

Driouch looks young. Kiprop's already 4 years from his ex post facto Olympic gold: he's probably 25-27, at his peak.

Does anyone give two f*cks? Africans are younger than they say when they are breaking masters records and older than they say when they are breaking junior records. Hmmmmmmmm

For reference, El G's 3:28.91:

53.55 (El G 54.5)
1:50.03 (El G 1:51.5)
2:48.24 El G takes lead, Morceli right off
3:28.91

Fermin Cacho was barely off in 3:28.95

Morceli annihilated (3:30)

IMO Ventolin, El G was flat out that day, no way would one have expected a 3:27.37 from him, much less a 3:26.00. Kiprop looked a lot more impressive, easily striding away.
