Desi's apparently got a hip problem that doesn't sound like it's going well.

They also have an article up about Meb and how he's missed two weeks of training.

More evidence that this is arguably the toughest sport in the world. Elite runners have to push themselves to the brink of injury to be successful. Too often they push themselves over. Hopefully both of these runners have caught it in time and will be ready on the start line.

If you read Paula Radcliffe's autobiography, it's essentially a list of PT sessions and nervous reactions.

So much for her being a "blue collar" runner. Using the Alter-G now to training.

Haha. Yeah. Their magazine is obviously garbage at this point, but their racing news daily is pretty solid.

Would you rather she just gave up and did not try to train through an injury to get the job done?

You are a moron.

Is Clara Grandt hurt? Don't think she has raced since OT or else had a
DNF? Alissa McKaig is next. Then Hanson's teammate
Dot McMahan. If Dot was in front of McKaig, the Hanson brothers might be more apt to sending Dot out there instead of Des hurt and possibly/probably DNFing.

My understanding is that the only possible solution is a single alternate whose name was given to the IOC. Not sure who that is, but it might not be Hastings or Cherobn-Bawcom, since the list was given after they'd qualified in the 10,000. But it's not like you can just keep going down to the list to find someone who's healthy and ready. That option doesn't exist.

I've had a hip flexor injury, and getting on the treadmill was ill-advised. She'd be better off just putting in easy, high mileage outside to at least keep her mechanics and muscle usage normal.

Girl I knew had a similar injury to desi's.

Surprisingly she got better when she started eating right.

Like I say, no carbs at night people, that messes with the body's internal clock. carbs in the morning, protein at night. The allows the normal clock to tick, allows a full night sleep for healthy hormone release and body recovery.

Carbs are high octane fuel, only before workouts, sleeping isn't a workout.

Also resistance bands for hip strenghtening but Desi probably already does that if she has an alter-G.

Word in town is that Clara Grandt is first alternate. Alisa and Dot may not The question who be in marathon shape and will they just be filling a spot for the sake of it?

Impressive that you have the solution, which has completely eluded her doctors/coaches.

"Davila is currently 'doing okay on the Alter-G,' which makes lower impact running possible, but she’s having painful difficulty on solid ground."

I had an different injury and used the Alter-G to train through but in the process the Alter-G actually caused a hip flexor issue. PT explained that the angle the Alter-G is at cause you to be more upright and puts a huge strain on the hip flexor.

I sure hope she can run in the Olympics!!

No, this is coming from what the doctors and PTs said, and I seeked out some of the best in the country (St. Vincents in Indianapolis, used by USATF). It's common knowledge too. Maybe running on solid ground is awkward/painful cause she's not doing it, but running on a treadmill, even slightly unweighted, isn't the best solution either.

The Hanson's goal is to produce a runner capable of being one of the top 3 in the country in the marathon. Not produce a runner who can win a medal in an Olympics.

They have accomplished their goal twice in their 14+ yr history.

But like Sell, Desi will not do well in the Olympics. The Olympic trials is the Hansons Olympics. The Olympics is just icing on the cake for them, but it's one race they have yet to be able to train someone well for.

The Hansons have produced 2 American Olympic Marathoners. That makes them part of a very exclusive group.

according to her log on Athleticore, Desi has averaged 47.2 mpw over the past month.
