Rotich, who officially turned 19 on June 26, has been improving rapidly. Rotich ran 1:47.89 last year, and ran his 1:43.62 in Liege on Thursday, winning by almost 2 full seconds. Here in this video he ran 1:44.46 on May 28. Rotich looks to me like he's going to be another great one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAjwCnjjwTQ |

Thanks for that video. I guess Abraham is being called Kipchichir here, but whatever his name, he looks tremendous. |

With 1:43.62 he just ran a new Kenya Junior Record, bettering Japhet Kimutai's 1:43.64 from 1997. Abraham Kipchirchir Rotich was not able to qualify for the World Junior Championship in 2010, where he managed third in his heat. In 2011 he was second at the National Secondary Schools Championship (in 1:46.4) behind Timothy Kitum and ahead of Leonard Kosencha but was not selected in the team to World Youth Champ in Lille due to injury. This year he finished second at the Junior Trials behind Edwin Kiplagat but again was not selected for the World Junior Championsip in Barcelona because AK gave a wild card to Timothy Kitum*. He also managed a fourth place at the Kenyan Olympic Trials. He is now ranked #3 in Kenya this year (#26 All Time). His Progression: 2010 - 1:50.76 2011 - 1:46.4h 2012 - 1:43.62 (NJR) *since Kitum is now qualified for the OG in London we may see Rotich in Barcelona |

glad he won't be there! He looks 21 to me. |

I really think that Kipchirchir is in his twenties as many of the Kenyan's/Ethiopians claiming to be 17-19 aren't really that age. Some of them don't really know when they were born. |

http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=ken/athcode=265284/index.html Nah.....stop hating! people thought Eliud Kipchoge was old when he won world champ 2003.....seems to me that was his actual age...Well, He can smoke anyone apart from Rudisha. He is not getting any unfair advantage. I hate when people talk about he peaked to early or he is old....while El-G dominated from indoors to outdoors, same to Bekele, Lagat and more world best runners! peak to early or he is old is american excuses. As long as he is not running Junior races who cares....Go Rotich |

Many of them know exactly when they were born, but they also know the rules for competing in junior events and are aware that 'teenage prodigies' are a lot more marketable than 25 year olds. |

Iaaf maybe said 25 because his ID was listed as 87 on the results. Does it line up? They really are just ID numbers, not birth years (Scherer and Martin's #s are off) http://www.timetronics.be/results/luik2012/event024h01.html |

I just realized Manzano has a faster 800m PR than Soloman and Manzano has never consided himself an 800m runner. 25 years ago we had almost a half dozen 1:43x 800m runners and now we have just one. |

bump because he just ran 1:43.1 to win Monaco Diamond League 800m |
