Corrupt, dissembling, hypocritical and despotic leadership is the norm for T&F national associations and governing bodies. But who "wins"? I think on balance AK and the South African association are probably the Olympic medalists in this category. Athletics Australia has certainly staked a claim. Arthur Tunstall was notorious beyond all measure. It's clear there are no good guys. The British board under Andy Norman would hold an Olympic A qualifier. USATF/USOC in 84 with the vanishing "B" samples - destroyed by an official in a "secure" lab... Spanish authorities in the late 90s smoothing the way for their EPO-doped stars daring to contest El G. Reyes Estevez, 2:46 @ 1200 in the 99 WC final! WTF!! Look at that and tell me he was clean!! |

I think you'll need to define "despotic" for the toolbags on this board. |

FIFA and their confederations and national governing bodies put IAAF to shame when it comes to corruption. Maybe because there is so much more money in the sport. Look up Jack Warner and see how he stole donations for the hurricane victims in Haiti, among many other things. |

Yes, agreed, FIFA and their bandits operate at a different financial level. But the peccadillos are the same. Remember Jennings' exposes of IOC corruption? http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-New-Lords-Rings-Corruption/dp/0671855719 And more recently, this: http://www.transparencyinsport.org/ Look at that. The Brazilian "soccer thief" takes some beating, pocketing one of the winning team members' medals so that he could not receive it that day on the field! Even the IOC probably wouldn't go that far... wouldn't be good for Rogge to take Foxxy's medal like this. |

Yea this. Qatar for the World Cup? Seriously? Where it's 115 degrees in the middle of the day? With the IAAF, I was astonished by all the freebies wanted by the IAAF dignitaries by the hosting site at the world championships. No decent-sized city will ever pull in the World Champs because they won't pay for the bills. I live in Indianapolis, and the city took a couple million dollar loss for Super Bowl. That caused a small uproar. No city or state would fork out the cash for such a guaranteed losing money bet like the track and field world championships. I know this is another topic, but the only chance the US has of hosting an IAAF World Champs in Nike dropping the cash to update the Oregon football stadium and throw a track around the field, or alter the stadium so a temporary track can be thrown in the middle. Hayward doesn't have enough space for that sort of expansion. |

The combat sports are magnitudes of order worse. Boxing, tae kwon do, judo, etc. |

Ian Stewart is making a run past his former bronze medal slot in this category. OK he is not a national federation director, but he is high enough up to qualify as a petty wannabe tyrant of the Blatter ilk. |
