Weir dismissal and Lananna job change are not related. Oregon is likely to announce staff shuffle next week.

Same source tells me that Robert Johnson will (or has?) been elevated to head coach. Lananna not "leaving" but role will change.

BREAKING AT THE TRIALS: Hearing from reliable source that Robert Weir fired by Oregon yesterday and Vin Lananna stepping down.
What's it all about, Alfie?
Weir underperformed as throws coach?
Lananna needing more time for indoor track facility project at Oregon?
Perhaps Uncle Phil got fired up by Lananna's idea of rebuilding Hayward Field and going after the WC's in Eugene.
Just spinning here, but it makes sense, PK is not getting any younger, so it may be time to accelerate some of his visions for the future at UO.
...So, RJ bumped up to HC.
Lananna more time for new role.
Weir thing is unrelated.
That would make sense.
That struck me as the kind of idea you throw around for fun, not something they would seriously go after.

Oregon loves Vin. Health could be an issue and why he is focusing on another role. Stanford was a gold mine but the move to Oregon probably will give Vin a future position at Nike if he wants it.
But maybe this is the opening for the Saugus coach everyone was looking for. I mean he is the best right? Just think, national champs in 1 year. They'll work harder than everyone!
I guess we are going to find out.
It makes sense that after Eugene 2012 is done, it would be time for Lananna to move onto another project...
Assuming it is not a health thing, Lannana has stated that he wants to leave a big legacy in Eugene. And PK does too, and PK is getting up there in years.
I think one can read between the lines in Lannana's quotes about getting the WC's hosted in Eugene, was that maybe they needed a carrot that size to get done what they want done:
1. A complete remaking of Hayward Field.
2. Building an indoor track and training facility. (Their little field house under the West Stands sucks compared to schools with similar climates).
3. Building some sort of Track and Field Museum or HOF.
I hope that's where this is headed!
This shuffle looks like a win-win for Oregon. Vin Lananna will now move to his new role: full time visionary, promoter, organizational head of Oregon Track Club Elite, Elite athlete coach, build up of new indoor facility, rennovation and expansion of Hayward Field, coordination of World Championships bid.
At the same time they have secured probably the hottest, most talented young coach in the country in Robert Johnson. Though the accomplishments continue to pile up with the currely Olympic Trials, here is Robert's bio: http://www.goducks.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=4363&SPID=243&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=500&ATCLID=186315&Q_SEASON=2011
They got the wrong Robert Johnson. They need the visionary LetsRun.com co-founder and coach of the National Champion* Cornell Track Team Robert "rojo" Johnson.
