Why Rupp Didn't Shake Bunbi's hand - the Official Word 6/29/2012 6:24PM Reply | Return to Index | Report Post
I was exactly right:

From RW interview with AS last night:

"Salazar: ...we were very careful about getting on with the recovery after he finished his 5-K [prelim] the other day. The second he finished, I told him, “You know what? No media, no autographs. You keep running right off the track. You run to the backfields.” I told him, “You jog off the track, and get into your warm down, and I got a massage set up for you 30 minutes later. And as soon as that massage is over you are in the ice bath. Proteins, carbs immediately within an hour of racing.” All those things, plus his training, allow him to recover fast. "

THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I TOLD YOU HATERS.

Of course I guessed right, but I was RIGHT.

So...immediate recovery>being a good sport? That's just annoying. Idc about the Bumbi handshake, Bumbi was clearly an ass during the race. He didn't deserve a handshake.

Al Sal coulda at least given him some time. This is why I don't like either of them, they think they're entitled to slave over every little detail of running versus letting Rupp being the public figure that he should. Otherwise, we will always see Rupp as the kid with the high pitched voice and the big ears, not the Olympian.

If I have to sacrifice a measly youtube interview after a prelim to see Rupp outkick Lagat on the homestretch in the next round... I can live with that.

Oh wow I read that wrong, I thought Al Sal meant he didn't shake hands after the Final. My bad, sorry.

Joycean stream of consciousness. Rupp's brain went Bunbi = bumblebee = pollen = I'm getting the hell out of here.

2 Things: If you paid attention to many of the heats and semi's, many, many, many, guys and gals just jetted to their right and on to and through the mix zone to get to their sweats and out to the back fields to do their cool down and get on with their post race process in taking care of themselves and prepping for the finals.
Second, the majority of Galen's success is that he is very well coached by a very experienced and very educated former world class runner. So when that coach tells you what to do post semi finals - you - based on the success you've consistently had under his coaching - do exactly what he has told you to do. If you read Salazar's comments, you'll see that as his coach, he had Rupp's every minute scheduled to make sure all of the best practice recovery techniques were used. And again, since you seem to not be a keen observer...on most of the heats and semi's guys and gals just took a right and headed towards the exit, fast.

After a finals, different story.

Will shaking hands deepen Rupp's voice or shrink his ears?

Incidentally, his voice isn't really that high pitched.

You line up and shuffle through a mass handshake in Pee-Wee softball. This is the Olympics, anything short of active aggression or shittalking is fair game.

Hey, I've got an idea, how about every one of you Rupp bashers, post your picture online and then we'll critique your looks as nastily as you do on this board.

That said, Rupp may be an average looking dude (and a big wtf? to those of you who have even thought it through any further than that to make nasty comments, who the f checks out a dude that far??)...but he's an average looking dude with a hot wife, a great pro contract, steady marked relevant improvement over the past 7 years, a great support team and friends named Salazar and Knight.

And he's got the guts and the balls to mix it up with the big names and take down a few scalps as he already has in the past year. Barring injury he's only going to get better.

And the haters going to become believers as they see him zip past take some wins and get on some podiums.

Completely false and total bs, and you fell for it....it's called damage control.

Taking a few seconds to shake a hand here or there would do nothing to hurt his race in the finals. Boy oh boy, some of you guys are so gullible it's sad, seriously.

If my coach tells me to get off the track immediately after a race and cool down, stretch, etc That's exactly what I'm going to do. To hell with you kiddies who only care about who shakes whose hands. Grow up.

I maintain that shaking hands after a heat is just kind of stupid. You shouldn't offer a handshake, or if you do you shouldn't be insulted if you don't get it. What the hell are you shaking hands for?

Hell yes, I did everything my coach at Oregon instructed me/us to do. Every single work out, every single instruction.

And, BTW, Salazar has no idea of the snit on this board.

And it is true, watch the video, in the heats and semi's, athletes almost all just hung a right and got out of there. In Rupp's case it makes even more sense his haste.

And that is the kind of positive micro managing Salazar does. And it was the RW journalist who asked the question about how he got Rupp recovered after the semi for the final... Otherwise we never hear about the instruction.

And Salazar has all the science correct. Carbs and protein within an hour of the race. I've read that in the first 20 minutes is even better....

Control freak coach! Well, whatever works! I dreamt I was talking to Galen after the race and he was very nice, but 7 feet tall. Seemed about right.
Also in the dream, congratulated Al, who was all biz. Onward!

The excuses for the lack of being a human being are downright nauseating. Lets stop the charade. We are talking about 2 seconds, max. Stop the nonsense. Galen has no interpersonal ability. No problem if all you care about is being a robot and not caring what your image is. But its a fact.

This is why you get the handshake out of the way before you finish.

You should be too if you want to see more Americans in the medal mix with 600 meters to go!

And come on, this is like year 11 of the Oregon Project, these guys and gals behind the scenes at Nike have put immense pieces of their lives into helping all three of these clubs.
